Default Save my vacation please!

6 weeks to go before my bucket list trip from New York to Vegas and need to solve one sticky issue. My check engine light comes on for 2 weeks, off for 6 back on for a few, back off again. Its showing a cam sensor code but no change in the way it drives. It will be two 60 year old women and six small dogs taking this trip and just dont want it ruined by a mechanical issue. Mechanic has checked everything and ready to go except for this. Any ideas?

Cam sensor is cheap, have your mechanic replace it. (get a genuine mopar sensor please.)

Thanks for your response. He said that there was an issue with aftermarket sensors and they no longer make the original. I'll speak with him tomorrow and make sure I have the exact part name correct.

The local dealer may not have any in stock, but, if you can get the correct part number, you can search on that, and generally find them available somewhere. Just be SURE it is a REAL Mopar part, and not "OEM Equivalent"....

It's the camshaft position sensor that I need. Van is a 5.2. I'm going by the mechanics today to read the newest code and will let you guys know the exact reading. Thanks so much for your help. Kathleen

Distributor pickup, pickup coil, and cam sensor are just different terms, for the same part. That one tends to confuse a LOT of folks.

You guys rock!! Just showed my mechanic the link and it is indeed just what I needed. He also suggested I get a crankshaft sensor foe extra insurance as they tend to go one after the other and sure enough, they had that in stock as well. I'm forever grateful.

Did you get the genuine Mopar cranks sensor?? These engines REALLY don't like the aftermarket sensors......

Ordered it from the same link above so I just assumed it was Mopar but I will check to make sure. Thanks again
