have a 2001 Ram 2500 Van with 5.2L and 2wd transmission. The transmission went out and I got what I thought was the same from a scrap yard. After closer inspection the only difference I can find is the wire connection where the shifter linkage is. The one I took out had a five wire plug and the one I got only has a three wire connection. Can I swap them out or eliminate two of the wires??

 

Trans you got is too old. Range sensor will be only the beginning of the problems Chances are good, the electronics inside the trans won't match up either.
