Default Electric fan

Hi all.

My radiator started to leak and while taking it out the shroud cracked now I need a shroud and radiator.

Has anyone tried the electric fan? Where would you put the sensor? Do you have to tap the thermostat housing?

It is all out. There is one on Ebay (basically it is the only one) that has the fan and shroud ready to install...

Also which way does the fan nut turn to get it off? I think it is reverse thread but I cant remember...thanks!

Standard threads. I just put a big wrench on it (crescent wrench.) whack it with a hammer a couple times, and the fan comes right off. (belt still installed, holds things in place.)

The temp sensor for the electric fan is usually a probe that inserts between the fins where the entrance is for the coolant coming from the engine. Have you checked into having the radiator fixed at a repair shop. Same goes for the shroud. Should be able to epoxy it back together. Next choice would be pick and pull.

I went to the boneyard and found a OK, not great, but usable fan shroud. I took the radiator to a shop and Ill find out if they can fix it tomorrow.
I may just end up getting this:

3 Row Radiator Shroud 16"Fan For 1995-2003 DODGE B1500 RAM 1500 VAN 3.9L 5.2L | eBay

it would be really nice to get rid of that huge clutch fan

Before you buy junk of ebay find out what the size of the "3 rows" are. Most times they are smaller than what the factory radiator is. Another thing to check is the row count, most aftermarket radiators are not the same count as stock but less. Witch equals less cooling than the stock radiator!

The three row was definitely three rows and barely fit in the shroud. The fan was only about 2 inches from it...so yes it was much bigger and took about a 1/2 gallon or more of water...

Not to sound confontational...but...

What choices do we have now? I cannot find anything that is not Chinesium. I mean, you are not getting a OEM one at all and all the replacements are Chinese...

And yes - I just found out that the 'three row aluminum' radiator I have is not fixable. It is junk. So now I am looking for alternatives.

If anyone knows of a real radiator I can get, please post it up...but I cannot find anything other that ebay/amazon specials...or I can pay 200 bucks for a Autozone one that is just like the 100 one from China...

I really want an upgraded radiator as it really helped my underhood tems and AC temp...so if I have to buy a crapbox again, well,,,Im gonna have to...

There are good American made radiators, but they are not cheap. One name I can think of has red in the name. The guys on the diesel forums like to use them.

I have no idea if they have anything for these vans, but I found several companies. American Eagle, Cold case, Mishimoto, and Champion. The last one is chinese and the next to last one is Japanes I believe. Couldn't find anything on the Reds one I referenced.
Just saw a video where a guy put an Alloyworks radiator in his 80's era dodge ram pickup.
