Default New Radio

I have a 1995 Dodge ram 2500 camper van and I replace the radio with an after market knock off. After connecting everything I only have one speaker working on the driver door, and it doesn't get loud enough to hear when driving. I am assuming there is an amp that I have not connected to. Any ideas on what I need to do to get the speakers working?

Did you originally have the infinity system?

On the infinity system, the head unit outputs are 'pre-amp out', and there are separate amplifiers elsewhere in the van. (locations varied over the years, some were right on the speakers, others were under the dash, or some such.) Likely your new head unit isn't powering the amps......

That is what I expected. Do you know how to resolve the issue?

Transfer the amps from the old speakers to the new, if they are mounted ON the speaker. If not, then find a way to power the amps. Some folks use the power antenna output on the radio to control a relay to power the amps.

With ignition on, and radio on, check and see if you are getting 12 volts on the black with red trace wire at either of the front speakers. That one should be power for the amp.
