Here you are:

It's telling me (by voice) "almost done, just click on the continue button", but clicking on that does nothing but bring the same voice instruction again.

Erm, I have never seen that before. There is nothing to install..... Are you running an ad-blocker by any chance? If you aren't, I think you should be....

And you get that when you click on the link???

I think it's the second step...

I tried using Edge instead of Firefox and got to a list of the manuals etc, but I can't see a path to things relating to the turn signals.

Checking the wires to the switch I found the white one had power, also the pink.

Seeing as I cannot find a way (even using Edge) to get a diagram with the turn signals on it out of that site, I would like to know what the other colour wires are for.

Also, what does the flasher unit look like? Is it the black square piece in my photo above (immediately to the right of the yellow circle)? Is it also shared by the hazard lights?

And are there any thoughts on why that metal box in there is heating up, even overheating judging by the melted plastic around a lead to it?

The brake light circuit routes through the turn signal switch. So, if the TSS is bad you won't have TS or brake lights. The reverse lights could just be a bad switch down on the tranny.

allora, we managed to get the brake lights working and still had no turn signals...

I'd expect the reversing light problem would be something like you've mentioned.

I can now find no power

And all the while this socket is floating loose with nothing plugged into it:

Of course, it could be for something unnecessary (power windows or similar, but I'd like to know, it's just hanging down to the right side of the steering column.

And, like I say, I find no power to the switch at all now. Any help with those wire colours would be a great advantage to me.

We've now established that the canister was faulty, but changing that hasn't effected a repair.

So it's back to the wires:

This is the 'ribbon' of wires going to the turn signal switch. black with red (horn), green, beige (or cream), pink, red with white, blue with pink, brown with red and finally white.

Yesterday we had power in the white, that;'s gone now. Today we have very weak (according to my test light) power in the red and white.

I'm thinking of cutting into the red and white and putting some direct power to it to see if that functions things. But which wires are the ones to the turn signals on each side?
