Ok I just bought a 1996 Dodge ram3500 van 5.9 it had transmission changed in it the one they put back in came from 1998 Dodge half ton with a 5.9 after I took van on highway it would not shift to overdrive so I got underneath it and found a three wire plug just hanging there oh also speedometer not working either the new tranny is supposed to be a 46re the one that came in van was 46re also so what up I am asking is why the plug with no place to plug it in on tranny

 

The 96 expects a vehicle speed sensor in the tailshaft of the trans, the 98 trans, as you have noticed, doesn't have it. You need a different trans. You *might* be able to just change the tailshaft housing, but, I don't know if the output shaft on the trans has any provisions for the drive gear for the VSS......
