I have a 2001 Ram Van 3500. In the photo, the wire circled in red used to be a single, thick electrical cord. The insulation melted, leaving what you see in the image. I need help identifying it in order to replace it.
As you can see, it comes out of a device located just under the air filter assembly, a few inches from the cap & rotor.
IS that the TV cable??? Where does the other end go?
If it is the TV cable, need to find out why it melted like that..... I would almost suspect that it was acting as a ground, which it really isn't designed for......
Naw, the reason it melted is unique. In diagnosing an ignition issue, we realized the catalytic converters were clogged. So the exhaust sensors had both been removed to prove it. Then a neighbor had a medical emergency, and I had to get her to the ER come hell or high water. As a result, the distance and speed required to get her to the ER caused the superheated exhaust coming from the sensor ports to melt the wire's exterior insulation.
I'll see if I can trace where the wire ends and report back.
BTW, what's the full name and purpose of the so-called 'TV wire'?
It's definitely an electrical connector, not a tension cable.
No, it's not an electrical cable, it is a cable with the outer black jacket removed. Being on that side of the engine makes it the transmission kickdown cable. The throttle cable is on the driver's side.
