It seems that someone has put different hoses on my van and I can't find the correct swap because
my pressure hose now has a leak. How do I figure out what hose has been used in order to replace it?
Thanks for the advice, but the hose the vehicle calls for doesn't fit the fittings on the steering box. This van used to be a PG&E van so may have parts on it that are not specific to the year of manufacture. So don't assume that I am some inexperienced nimrod and haven't already tried that route. How about some advice on where to look for the part numbers on the steering box and pump. In order to find the correct hoses for those.

I assume everyone is some 'inexperienced nimrod', unless they tell me otherwise. What is the point of going into a long, detailed discussion, if the other party isn't going to understand what you have to say? Don't assume you are being singled-out for any particular level of knowledge....
I am not entirely sure there IS a part number on the power steering pump anywhere easily accessible.... (or, not so easily, for that matter....) There may be a number stamped on the tank, but, not sure how helpful that would be... Not sure the numbers are to found anywhere on the steering box either..... Which end of the stock hose doesn't fit?
First of all when you assume, you make an *** of u and me. That being said the end connecting to the steering box has the wrong fitting. What the stock calls for is a male fitting. But what the hose that is currently there has a female fitting. The closest that I have found is from an 84, but it still doesn't look right. I kind of hate to replace every part of the steering just because of a faulty hose. Unnecisary expenses I really can't afford.
Gotta guess (assume....) skill level at some point. I don't know you from Adam, so, you might be a newbie, that knows nothing, or, you might be an experienced tech with 40 years under your belt. Or anywhere in between. Which do you think is most likely for new members on an internet forum? If you don't let me know, then my 'safe guess' is what I go with. If that ruffles your feathers, that's a you problem.
Can you remove the male fitting from the steering box that the hose connects to? (I have to ask, as I don't know what you are looking at......nor do I know what all you have tried.)

I don't understand what you are looking at. I'm looking at the image you posted, and the pressure hose definitely has a male end on it.
Take the old hose to a hydraulic repair shop and have a new flexible section put in. Cheaper than a new hose I would think.
I would do as you suggested except that this is my dsily driver and have no way to get to such a place if that hose is removed. And my mechanic won't do that for me.
But otherwise this is the best answer I have recieved, thanks.
