Default 46RH Valve Question - Missing Piece?

Hey all. I’ve overhauled my entire 46RH and I’m just putting it back together.

I’ve got the valves back together and cleaned.

One thing confusing me is that in the manual it shows the 3-4 Quick Fill Valve, which is in the lower housing as having one spring and two valve pieces.

My manual is for the 46RH, but the valve in my lower housing is only one piece and a spring.

I’m wondering if some transmissions had these two piece valves and then some only had one. Or maybe it’s aftermarket?

I don’t wanna skip anything important so if anyone has any help, it would be super super super appreciated. Thank!

One of 'em is just a plug.... Which piece do you not have?

Oh ok. Thanks lot for the clarification. So there should always be a small plug piece. Been bugging me all day.

Gotta retrace my steps. Luckily the valves are still out.

I have the plug piece. It’s a sizable plug with about a 1/2 inch long tip on one end. It has a hollow bore at the other end (houses spring).

This is the weird part because the plug type piece that was in the bore is not in the manual. OD never really worked so I can’t say if it’s functional or not. Here are some pics.

[Edit: The bore for this valve has another valve piece and spring that are e-clipped in at the other end of the valve. I also don’t think this is in the manual. Please see the last picture for what I’m referring to.]

Auto transmission remind me a lot of black magic. You spin one end, and it comes out the other, or not, or maybe the other direction.... anything that happens in between? That's the magic.
