The fuses on both vans are good. So it could be another issue, but right now going thru court things and the other v6 van is the one I would take because I can stand up and/or live in it. Depending.

Nope, the only electrical going to the 3-speed is the reverse/neutral safety switch and the speedometer sender.

Next up, I'm gonna try some sort of regulator from some alternator, whatever I can find or buy cheap. I'll let you know if I find one

I am looking at this:

I gotta watch my funds right now, 20 bucks isn't much but still, the description is broken English but it says the input from field must be alternating current?? But DC voltage regulates it properly, maybe they mean pwm AC ?

It says universal. Would be interesting if it works.

I'll sleep on it maybe.

From what I gather ,

The screw on the tha is ground,

The red tab is switched positive (key gate?)

The yellow tab is positive field (positive from DC power supply.)

The negative field from the DC power supply would have to also be grounded.

The red light indicates it is working.

It would have to give 3vdc at idle and around 1.2vdc at highway speed.
