A Crappy Running Dodge ** Help
Hello, I am at my wit's end! The 23rd of December on my way to work, my truck starts sounding like a VW bug. As I have a V10, this is not good! My husbandreplaced the plugs, they were in need of replacement and ordered wires for the thing, replaced those one at a times, so as not to disturb the firing order, and it still runs like c**p. We took it to the shop andthe mechanicdid a compression test, since it was not showing a code, found out that one of the coil packs were bad,( the big one with 6 of the 10 plugs ) replaced it, still running like that. Do we need to go ahead and replace the other one? I really hate to pay the guy at the shop the diagnostic fee again, any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thank You.

Since I have two, we changed the one the mechanic said was bad, and it still has the skip. So I guess that means no, it didn't . Change the other one, perhaps?

If you paid the mechanic to change the coil and he changed the one that wasn't faulty, I think he should have to fix his mistake. On the other hand, if he only diagnosed it and you changed the coil, are you sure the new coil is good? </P>
Let the mechanic know that his diagnoses did not fix the problem and he shouldn't charge youto look at it again.</P>

I paid the mechanic to diagnose, he's a friend of ours, so we got a deal on the price. We ordered the part from the dealer and also talked to the mechanic and he suggested checking the plugs on that coil to see if they're now fouled. He suggested doing that beforewe replacedthe other coil pack. He also said to give him a holler if it still wasn't sorted out. Thanks for the advice, though. I appreciate it.<IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0">

well, the plugs were fouled, just4 of the 6connected to that other coil pack, and it's still misfiring, so we'll put the other plugs back in it and limp down to the shop tomorrow. It's something simple, because no code is being given and no check engine light coming on. Somebody scream!!!! Namely, me!<IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">

I was sooo wrong, it wasn't simple, and it isn't going to be cheap, either. I have a burnt valve on my #6 cylinder. Lucky me, at only 80 k miles. Why couldn't it havehappened to one of those people who don't maintain their vehicles? It happened to me, somebody who takes very good care of their truck.Found the problem, still will continue to be an active member of the forum, though. I appreciate any assistance that has been offered.

IT'S FIXED!!! Turns out that the bolt that the rocker arm and pushrod connect with was broken, which caused the pushrod to fall out. Luckily, it couldn't have fallen any more perfectly! It was just lying there, pretty as you please. No valve job, truck fixed, the redhead is happy!
