Are they even updating the Valentine 1 these days? It still looks like the same old unit from the 80s...
A vast majority of departments are switching to laser guns. The only time I have seen a true Radar is rolling radar installed in some of the vehicles... I'm not sure where you live, but you should check into the legality of owning a laser jammer (or shifter as they are commonly called). A friend of mine has the Escort Z3 installed on his 2003 Toyota Tacoma - and it has saved his bacon many times. I was riding with him once when the warning started going off... he was doing 80 in a 55 - and didn't even bother to slow down. The cop kept trying to get a speed reading off of him... and it didn't work. He just sat there jaw dropped with a look of WTF on his face.
The was another story he was telling me when a cop actually came out after him in traffic - and was pissed off that he couldn't get a read. He tried to get my friend to admit how fast he was going - but he was too smart for that game.![Wink](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I can tell you that the Z3 does work - at least with the laser guns used in/around Portland, Oregon.
Good luck!

I TOTALLY agree with Viper. I've owned both generations of Valentine's and let me tell you they have never let me down. I'm a former Texas State Trooper Highway Patrol Division so I know radar and with this last generation with POP detection added they can't be beat. Now I'm not taking anything away from the other top competitor however the arrows are awesome. You don't have to look around to see where the hell it's coming from. Also the guy who developed the Valentine One was the top researcher andf developer at Cinncinati Microwave who produces the competition not to mention he also developed radar for the military.

Can you guys tell me what would bethe best radar detector for me 2 get?
Most of the time, again most of the time they have your speed before your detector goes off depending on traffic and such. In Utah, the officer must have already visually determined your speed before activating radar/laser so more than likely you've already gotten the ticket if they stop you. Believe me, they are good at it

This is true...........part of the time. We were told as Troopers never to rely soley on the radar because 1 the radar cannot issue a citation and 2 it is a tool a affirm our estimate of your speed. Now I was on the road for 5 and a half years and you have to be recerted every yr and I was good....no damn good to the point I could est. your speed +/- 1mph day or night and be dead on however the key factors that caught our eye is the way your vehicle is moving across road surfaces (ie the small rises in the pavement), at night we focus on your tail/head lites against a fixed object, the color, they way you change lanes, etc. However we can't catch everyone and when I flip my switch to read by the time your radar goes off I have you but if I'm checking another vehicle then the residual will cont. and you'll pick it up and hopefully slow down. Now the Valentine One has great reach so that's a plus because as good as I was I couldn't detect your speed visually 2 miles away.......no officer could and the V1 will find us that far away.
