Dodge 5.7 vs. Ford 5.4
Anybody know how the 5.4 in the 04 Fords do against the Hemi?? It's supposed to have a lot more powerthan before, besides the SRT-10 Ram is in class with the Lightning. The natural aspirated 5.4 should go against the Hemi. And get beaten severely I might add. Oh, lets bring Chevy in this race too, I don't know much about the newer ones.

hey now...i may own a dodge truck, and love it to death, but im a chevy guy at heart. and quite frnakly, they make some killer trucks. the new silverado 3500 hd with the duramax deisel put nearly 600 ft/lbs to the ground. talk about towing power. </P>
granted they dont have any "super trucks" (srt-10, lightning) other than the silverado ss, but out of every truck i have driven, and trust me ive driven quite a few, they new chevy's ride the smoothest and are the most responsive. plus i think the look kick the crap out of the new ford, and are just as good as the ram.</P>

The new Ford Triton 5.4L that is in the 2004 F-150 is 30% redisigned from the old version of the engine. It's only in the new F-150's not the Lightning. It has the new 3V engine desgin and has 300HP/365TQ. It is still 330cid. They said it handles extremely well but the best 0-60 time I have seen is 7.8 seconds. That was in a Lariat Quad Cab 4X4. There might be lighter models like the FX4 Regular Cab that could be faster, but they have nottested those yet. </P>

I have to disagree that the Chevy's look just as good as the rams, they look freakin' plain to me, yeah the Fords are boxy and ugly I think, but the Ram just looks so good. and I want Truck Trend to do a shootout with 2wd short bed reg cab with the new F150, Hemi Ram, andthe Chev. Can you say Landslide??</P>

The 5.4L without the Supercharger is 260HP. The HEMI with a Supercharger is 517HP. Besides, the point of HEMI's re-introduction in the Ram was for Heavy Duty purposes. What do you guys think?
Nothing to say, you said it all. The Hemi is the better engine. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>38016.1027314815</editDate></edited>

Don't bet the farm! The 2wd Silverado sb with 5.3,3.73 gears and 5 speed ran 0-60 in 7.3 and 14.78 in the qtr.! I love my Ram but most of the Chevies are quicker!</P>

I am not sure I am going to add much to this discussion but I will try. I have a 2000 Ford F-150 4x4 super cab with the 5.4 and a 2003 1500 hemi 4x4 quad cab. Before I bought the Dodge I drove the GMC's and Fords. Additionally, my company purchases quite a large number of trucks each year for the fleet, I am part of that. I am talking work truck and light duty, not performance trucks.</P>
Racing a 2wd truck with regular cab compared to a 4x4 four door is not a good comparison. Not sure why that statement even needs to be made! Crap a chevy s-10 4.3 will smoke most large trucks simply based on hp to weight. Now load em up with equal weights and see what happens. The 5.4 is not a race engine guys it is a truck engine. It produes power down low and does not rev to the moon, like a hemi.</P>
My hemi does have more power than my 5.4 in the upper r's butnot enough to make mego around crowing like a rooster though. The hemi gets horrible mileage and performs poorly under low rpm with or without a load. I prefer my 5.4 in many situations and the hemi in others. Overall I like the valve of the Dodge but don't be sure that the 5.4 is a POS just because it "might" not win a drag race. My 2000 5.4 gives the hemi fits until 60, the hemi edges the ford out by a door length.</P>

Sorry to break you guys hearts here, but the comparison between the Lightning and the Hemi Ram is not even a fair one. Just to quickly mention that the 500-hp Viper "Truck" isn't hanging with the Lightnings is enough said. The Hemi is a good motor, but pair both trucks up straight from the factory and the Lightning will smoke the Hemi every time. The Lightning was built with the sole purpose of hauling ***. the Hemi-Ram more for power and towing not for sport truck. Just food for thought. The only competition for the Lightning right now is the SRT-10, and it will be good.

Have to agree with you. The fact that you are stating facts and not coming here and putting other vehicles down is great. Do me a favor, as soon as you see a Titan, smoke his a$$.<IMG src=smileys/smiley36.gif border="0">Lightning is built for Speed and the Hemi is multi functional. I have seen many Lightnings at the track, they are impressive. This coming season should be interesting, many mods are becoming available for the Hemi.</P>
