I run AMSOIL 15W-40 heavy duty diesel oil and there super duty oil filters. Love the stuff. When you look at standard wear tests they bet all the rest. Check out Syntheticoilman's forum for lots of info on synthetic oil.

I run Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. I recently put it in my 69 Coronet, which had about 1K miles on the engine with regular oil. I put in the synthetic and it was a noticable change in the way it turned over. It was much quicker and easier on the starter. To me it seems worth the money.

No one here is going to argue about one oil over the other. Mobil 1 is a decent oil for a decent price but, they have to skimp on additives ( which make the oils last longer) to keep the cost competitive. Amsoil's additive package is better, meaning the oil will last longer than Mobil 1. If you changed both oils at 3000 miles you wouldn't notice much difference between Amsoil and Mobil 1. If you changed you oil at 1 year or 25,000 miles (like Amsoil warranties their oil for), you'll notice Amsoil comes out on top.

Is their a difference between petroleum and good synthetic oil (group3 or group 4), absolutely! I have used petroluem oil for 9 years and when I switched to synthetics. I uppedmy mileage in both trucks. I picked up 2mpg with my Ram 4x4 and 1 to 2 mpg with my Dakota. Both trucks run 10 to 15 degrees cooler in the hot desert summers. And both trucks run quieter also. I tried Mobil 1 in my Dakota before Amsoil, and I did notice the truck ran better with Amsoil.

If you anyone doubts my logic about Mobil 1, I'd be happy to share the opinion of an oil analyst who tests all brands of oil.

The only problem with that test is it's almost ten years old and oil has advanced quite a bit since then.

sgbofav, is it possible to buy amsoil at autozone, pep boys, kragens, or any other major auto parts store that most do-it-yourself guys go for their stuff? And what is the cost per quart of amsoil vs. say mobil1? Any and all info much appreciated. Oh, are you a dealer for amsoil?
