Default Is this a good deal ?

Hello all, Well I am going to buy a new 04 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4X4 Hemi and I have been quoted the following price and I wanted to throw it by you Dodge guys to see if you think it is a good deal or not. Here is the offer:

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4X4 with the following:
Hemi engine W/5 speed auto Trans
Big horn pkg which includes the premium Infinity sound system and steering wheel controls
tow package
and there are a few other options that I can't remember but anyway the price is $29,999.00 minus a $3,250.00 rebate = 26,749.00 + fees so do you think that it is a good deal ?? Please let me know what you think as I plan to buy this weekend.

Thank you.
Jeff B.

Looks like a nice ride, but I would keep looking.

When I was deciding to buy new or used, I got several quotes from dealers on new models in the price range you listed.

To my surprise, the selling prices were all about 79% of the MSRP. That included the $3250 rebate(s) and dealer discount. All I did was go to the dodge.com and look at local dealers, pick a truck and ask for an internet quote. I was amazed.

For instance, I was quoted a sale price(2WD model) of $23,937 on a truck with a sticker of $30,300. I thought the guy was smoking something, but he verified it when I called him. I even got 1 quote that was about 74% of the sticker as the guy gave me a Chrysler employee discount for some reason.

Uhhhhh that is a good deal. That truck retails for $36000. Mine is similar to yours: 2003 SLT 4x4 quad cab hemi, infinity, tow, off road, adj pedals, shift on the fly, slider, storage, lighting kit, 4 wheel anti lock,

$26500.

With no trade look at the sticker and forget it. Look at the Dealer invoice. Thats the price they want you to believe they pay for the truck. There is a 3% hold back for the Dealer. So if the list is $30,000.00 the hold back is about $900.00. I order a Ram SLT for invoice less 1/2 of the hold back in my case $400.00, $2750.00 rebate, $300 rebate for business and 0% for 48 months with no service fees. Brian

Holy cow. 75% of MSRP!

Are they not able to sell these at full price, or just under?

I guess that's why I keep seeing all of these commercials with rebates, cash back, and a free pan of peanut brittle with every purchase.

Guys, seriously though, don't you worry about the resale on the Rams if they are already at 25% off before you drive it off the lot?

A good deal is hard to judge since local market conditions will determine what is a good deal or not. I like to use Edmunds.com to determine local pricing. It looks like your truck has a sticker of about $34,000 & an invoice of about $30,000. Edmunds tells me that the true market value here in MD is $30,600. So if you live near me, you have a good deal. I would also choose the $2000 rebate, $750 conquest cash and use 0.0% financing for 48mos. The financing saves about $3000 when compared to 5.0% financing. Oh wait a minute...I did choose that combination 2 weekends ago when I bought my hemi. I got bids from 3 dealers, all of them were within $300 of each other. I beat the Edmunds price by a couple of hundred bucks without haggling. I think it was a fair deal, and the experience was more pleasant than when we bought my wife's Infiniti last year. Go figure.

Anyway, I'm new to the Dodge world, this is my first Dodge as well as my first post. I've owned Toyota, Chevy & Ford trucks in the past. I naturally shopped all of the other makes not being a brand loyalist. Suprisingly the Ford was the most expensive, selling for 95% of retail. The Dodge was 90% before rebates. The Nissan, which had an annoying drone of an engine sound in the mid-range was selling for less than 90% of retail. Surely Nissans prices will continue to drop once the novelty wears off. The Toyota just didn't feel full-size in the cabin, but they along with GM are having some pretty deep discounts around here even before rebates. IMHO, Dodge was the best truck period - comfort, power, ride - but the incentives helped me buy the truck now, rather waiting a little longer as originally planned.
