I test drove a '97 SS/T a while back. It was just a regular ram with stripes and 17" wheels. They do come with the 5.9, but the interior of it wasnt anything different in the one I drove, and there arent any body kits, just the stripes.
Something about those stripes and wheels though....badass lookin. I was in love with those for a LONG time.

ok well then since there is no difference in the truck. how does the ram drive? is it reliable? i have a good friend who owns a body shop so i could always add the stripes and go buy rims i guess. i guess what i want to know is if a ram pickup is a good truck?
I have a 97 Ram w/91,000 miles which I'll never get rid of! I love that truck, In it's life I've had the plenum gaskets replaced and the rear-end rebuilt, which I don't think is a big deal for an 8 yr old truck. It's really caused me less problems than my 03 Ram Hemi has. But Dodge, you won't regret it!

I checked on the SST when it first came out. I asked what was different other than the stripes. The service guy at my local dealer said that they came stock with the Mopar PCM and that was about it. Other than being standard 5.9 I was purchasing my PCM for my 95 at the time. Wether or not that is true I couldnt tell ya. But I did see a couple of them run standard 5.9 Rams and they were quciker, There are also some 'rare' color combintations on those too.
White with blue stripes being the least produced. I think the blue with white stripes was the highest produced. I have seen Red with grey stripes, black with gray stripes, green with green stripes(UGLY), lots of the blues with white and only one white with blues.
I dont know if the Indy Pace truck is even an SST or not. I like that blue though.
Being your first truck you can easily pickup a 94-98 Ram 1500 w/5.9 for under 5K and make a pretty nice street truck out of it.
5.9 + Auto + 3.92 Limited Slip + no cats + true duals = FUN
Plus if you remove the rear storage bins you can easily fit 2 12s behind the seats. Drop shackles for the rear to level it out are almost free and you can get a nice set of 17s to fill up the wheel wells off of EBAY for next to nothing.
Tint the windows and polish up the paint and you are rolling. Oh yea, you will probably need some kind of steering wheel cover because the leather has been rubbed off by a previous owner. Never mind the stitching on the drivers seat by the hinge, yea it will be torn but it can be fixed. Amps fit nicely under the seats. The stereo is a piece of cake to swap, the doors speakers are too, 6x9s so you can pretty some pretty decent speakers in there too. If you didnt buy the one with the infinity speakers in the door dont worry about it, you can get a nice set of tweets and smoot them in the same place and get better sound.
Better aspiration? Simple. Get a piece of 1/4 inch threaded and put a 3/4 inch bend in it. take off the factory air cleaner, screw that bad boy down into the carb/EFI and get you a 14" air cleaner, you will need the spacer to pick it up a bit but it it a lot cheaper than buying the K&N for it. You can always get the K&N filter.
Extra Cash? Buy the Ram air hood, or functional cowl hood. With the new air filter this will not only look wicked it will help out.
Once you replace the exhaust, two shorty 40series flowmasters with 18" of pipe then turndowns, you will be rolling like doo doo brown.
