Default Throttle bodies, spacers, and intake kits....

Hey all,
everyone has an opinion, I am asking for yours. I have been looking at a BBK 70MM throttle body and a spacer for my new (used) Ram. I found it for $250, and a Poweraid spacer (which i hope fits) for $113. Combined with a Stage 2 aFe intake kit for $395 (plus shipping for all this) I am looking to drop about $800 dollars or something in that neighborhood.

Questions:

1. Have any of you tried this setup? What do you think?

2. Anyone know where I can get it for less? Where?

3. Is there a better setup? What can I change?

Search for Throttle Body posts, there has been many. I've read that the Space actually doesn't do much... replacing the throttle body is recommended by many on this site. Did you see the Fastmans offer on Throttle bodies?

Yes, The Fastman is the best... see it here:

I also don't believe in Spacers... a waste I've heard...

OMG!!!!! 800.00!!!!! Ok, there is NO need to spend 800.00 bucks on an intake set up!!!

1) Forget you EVER heard the term "Throtle Body Spacer"!!!! They do jack for fuel injected cars/trucks!! They only people that will tell you otherwise are companies trying to sell them, or some one who bought one and is trying to recoop their loss!! The throtle body (who here has seen me post this before...lol) is nothing but out dated technology from the Carb days! Back then the fuel was added to the air in the carb and then sent to the intake manafold. The spacers put a spin the the air flow causing the air/fuel to mix better. Today the fuel is shoot directly into each chamber. And spinning air has no effect once its already in the intake manafold. Thats $113.00 bucks saved!!

2) As for the TB, get a Fastman!! https://dodgeforum.com/tm.asp?m=17172 He takes a NEW stock TB and modifies it to the same dimentions as the other performance TBS. Because he is modifying an existing TB rather than starting from scratch he is cheaper. Another site did a shoot out between different TBs and The Fastmans out performed TBs 2 and 3 times the price!! So thats another 80.00 bucks saved!

3) I have never heard of aFe...but OMG 400.00 bucks for an intake!!! I am assuming you either have the 4.7 or 3.7 based on the TB size. I have heard from MANY people that http://www.intenseperformance.com/pr...age/stage.html has the BEST intakes for these two engines!! I have heard nothing but praise for their performance, and customer service!! Stage 2 125.00 - 170.00 based on filter size and stage 3 (recomended) 224.00-244.00 based on filter size. thats 155-275 saved.

thats 248.00 - 368.00 saved....iaccept cash or check!! LOL

70mm throttle body may give you too much fuel. You may have to lean it out. I would stay in the 50-55mm range. As with everyone, Spacer dont do jack.

Vader...the TB has nothing to do with the fuel directly. The TPS sensor on the TB tells the PCM how much fuel to use, and send the fuel in through the injectors.

On the 3.9 5.2 and 5.9 engines the TB has two inlets. On stock V8s each one is 50mm (100mm total).

Modified TBs are ported out to 52 and up to 55 (for 408, and S/C). If he had 70 total that would decrease the size of the wholes.

the 70 mm is a good size for the 4.7L with has only 1 large inlet (stock is 68 I think).

The problem is that if it is to big a opening to much air will get in..seeing as how the PCM is still getting the stock reading from the TPS, so you would have to richin the mix. Which isnt good too.

So for a 5.9L 52mm is the best..you dont wanna go larger unless you have some major mods.

for the 4.7L 70mm is a good choice and can be ordered from the Fastman for only 179.00

Oh, thanks for the information. I had been previously misinformed. So, the Fastman TB for my 5.9 will probably be 52mm.

Thanks again, knowledge is power

That's the retail price for the aFe. Some searching on the net will find lower prices.

Here's an example after a quick look:
