hands down I would want the 5.9.
Hemi people will cry from now and forever that the Hemi is GOD. Well its a strog engine...but its about as strong as it can get.
I keep hearing people say stuff like "well headers and intakes are out already, its only a matter of time before the Hemi has the same mods as the 5.9"
Well thats not going to happen. The TB is not upgradable, the heads are what caused the 345 HP to begain with so , they are out. The cam is already big.
Sure the Hemi is a beast out of the factory...but just remember....there is no replacment for displacement

There is always something left on the table when dealing with production engines. The heads are well done from the factory, but have already shown that even slight port work yields improvement with stock TB and PCM. The stock bottom end is more capable than the 5.9 thanks to the cross-bolted mains. The cam doesn't need to be upgraded, the ratio of the rocker can be changed to increase lift and the TB can probably accomodate other upgrades. As with any PCM controlled engine, the computer is really the key. From an engineering standpoint, the Hemi has more potential than the 5.9. As you already said " it's only a matter of time", sorry. I love my Hemi and always will even if there will never be the mod for it like the 5.9L has. I guy like myself doesn't have the know how or cash for heavy mods. I like my 5.7L the way it is for right now.

[sm=smiley13.gif] dunno.
I'm glad Keith Black, Tom Hoover, Big Daddy, or the Pettys didn't see it that way.
I suppose now we'll hear that the 5.7L isn't a "true" hemi.[sm=smiley6.gif]

I voted 5.9 because that's what is making my baby girl move... but I love the Hemi... LOVE IT... My next truck will have a Hemi... but I'll still have my 5.9L Lady In Red. ![Wink](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I have a 5.9 with a few bolt on's and I can light up my 35's like there is no tomorrow, so I do love my 5.9L. There is one thing about the HEMI, you do start with 345 HP, but I have been hearing when you mod things like the intake and exhaust it does not respond very well to the mods and you can even loose power. They are both great engines so, I would say, DUNNO.

mods or no mods, hands down the hemi!!! as i stated in another post i raced the same guy at the track 3 times and wasn't even close EVER!! i have the hemi and it's not even at full potential yet, with only 2K miles on it!! oh and the guy i raced had a single cab shortbox 98 5.9 with Gibson headers, Gibson full exhaust and cold air!!! all i have is stock plus k&N drop in, but nonetheless i still beat him 3 times and the closest he got was 7 or 8 car lengths!!
