Ive figured it out. When your sitting still with the car on, the overhead is averaging in 0 MPG when in reality you arent burning that much gas. Thats what screws up the overhead thing.

I'm sure it could vary from vehicle to vehicle but I have found my computer to very accurate checking it against the old fashioned way. I realize that driving habits can make a great deal of difference, but some of the miles per gallon that I have seen posted makes me shudder and realize that I am probably lucky. I average 14.8 MPG with short trip, stop and go driving and 17.9 on long, Interstate trips. Shucks, I averaged 10.0 towing my travel trailer to Atlanta last week.
