I have a 2001 Ram Quad Cab w/5.9L gas engine 4 speed overdrive with 62,000 miles. After cranking the engine, the engine idles very erractic. It will surge then drop back down and then surge again will do it cold or hot. Engine has good power otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. [sm=smiley23.gif]

Hi, I cant help you, but. I have the same truck, just bought it used lastmonth it has 34000miles. At idle it sounds like it is missing on one cylinder, or maybe they sound like that. It sounds to me like a "hot" cam and it is loping along. Does this sound normal, i can see no bouncing on the tachometer needle and the truck runs fine otherwise, except for a bit of a shudder at approx 42-45mph, could this be the torque converter locking up ? Thanks Bill

had a similar problem with my 98 ram 318, figured out it only occured when the tank was topped RIGHT up, i guess it was feeding back in the return line or something.
but i think there was a TSB on this problem, listed on http://dodgeram.info/tsb/index.html , which also has many other TSB's. good luck. as for capecoralbill, your torque converter may be packing it in soon...mine did at about 90k.

I know the new ones do, they are part of the fuel pressure regulator. They are lifetime pieces, not designed to need replacement unless they are defective and troubleshooting reveals them as a problem.
