engine quits

I have a 1986 dodge ramcharger and when i start it up and let off the key it quits but if i hold key over to start it will run. Thanks for all help.

problem is a ballast resistor on fire wall,this has a start & run circuit this cuts voltage to distributor, do not use temp jumpers.
