Default Noobie.... Wanting a Ram......

Hey everyone, I am looking at a 2004 Ram 1500 Quad w/ 4.7 liter. I don't know much about the 4.7 liter V8, my buddy has a Hemi in his 2500 Ram and I love it, but can't afford it. I test drove the 4.7 liter and was really impressed with the pick up and drivability of it. I was wondering if I could get any feedback as far as gas mileage, how long the 4.7 has been around, reliability, questions, comments etc. Any info would be great.

Ok, I'll give you all I know, first off, www.google.com, look it all up, thats the best way, and as far was what I know about the 4.7L engine, correct me anyone if I'm wrong but I think it first came out in the Jeep Grand Cherokee in 1999. I think, not 100% on that though.

my 2.

Mike.

if u are looking to add bigger wheels like i did, your gas mileage is gonna be poor around 14-15 on the highway. and you will lose some power. but with stock wheels u will be pleased i think. and u can always change gears down the line to bring back the power and mabey the MPG. I have 43,000 trouble free miles on mine. still under warranty, it seems that after the warranty runs out things start going downhill but i wont know for a while i guess.

hey Stephen -

I've had 2 4.7's -

First one in a 2000 Dakota club cab. I think it was the first year they put them in the dak.
I put 35k on it and never had one problem with it. It stalled alot when It was new but a PCM flash took care of that.

Second one was in a 2002 Durango. Put 30K on it and not one problem...

Just bought an 04 Ram. was going to get the 4.7 but the sales guy talked me into test driving the hemi. I was hooked

Yes, mike the first 4.7 was in the 1999 GC. Then in 2000 it made its way into the dak and durango. In 2002 it started being placed in the rams. Its a very good engine, I've had two so far an 02 and my new 04. Now I may be a bit biased because I used to work in the plant they are built at. I can tell you now it is the benchmark corporate is using for warantee costs, because they are so low. Its a great product have no fear. Man this is really starting to sound like a flippin tv ad.lol

I had the 4.7 in a 2001 Dakota Crew Cab 4x4 and it was awesome! I know it's a smaller body truck than the RAM but it had more than enough power and got great gas mileage, about 18 on the highway(good for a 4x4). I sold it and bought a fullsize RAM with the 5.9, the biggest mistake i've ever made. It gets terrible gas mileage and has no power! My Dakota would out pull it, out run it, and get a lot better gas mileage!

I bought a used '02 ram 1500 4X4 with the 4.7L. For gas milage sticker says the same for both the hemi and the 4.7L (13 city). and that's about what I get. Here's and idea , you might try looking at a used hemi 03+. Dodge certifies them to 7 year/84k miles. I got lucky mine had only 9K miles on it and was mint. I paid 19K. Just my $.02
