Default lifting with stock susp.

some of my chevy friends have lifted their stock suspensions by adjusting their torsion bars .... also some of my ford friends have, too...

i wondered if i could do that with my truck?

bein new to owning trucks, i dont know much on the details of this... if it's possible, can anybody give me a how-to?

thanks

what kind of truck do you have? If it has torsion bars, then probably. If it is solid axle, then no.

yes you can adjust your torsion bars if you have them. It depends which truck you have. Keep in mind that if you do adjust your torsion bars your ride will be stiffer, you will also be putting excessive wear on your front suspension parts such as your ball joints, axel shafts and bearings, and premature wear on your front tires. Adjusting them is easy just follow your torsion bar back to where it they meet the frame. there will be a bolt there you can adjust the amount of lift there by adjusting the preload of your torsion bar (tightening the bolt) as soon as you achieve the lift that you want make sure that you have your alignment checked and adjusted.

Make sure to have the front off the ground when you adjust the bolts as well.

i have adjusted the torsion on my 02 1500. The ride is firmer(i like it because of not as bouncy ride). I lifted it 1 1/4", orignally 1 1/2" but it was too firm and was worried about the wear factor. The only bad side to this is that when i go over a monster speed bump we have here in the apt complex, feels like the the suspension is slapping back because of the inertial loss of weight when the truck goes up. Did it mostly for cosmetic reasons. When tax time comes back, I will be spending the $1700 for the rancho 4.5" lift. I am happy with the 33" tires i have and 6" would look too funky. Plus I like the fact that I don't have to do any more exhaust mods with the Rancho kit. There is 2 versions of the kit, with or aftermarker rims. The XXX73 kit is for stock rims. The difference is it has smaller tie rod ends. This way I dont have to lay out the $$$ for new rims. When I decide to go with different rims I can order the XXX72 kit tie rod ends. Cost a lil more in the end, but if the gas prices hit $2.25 in the future the truck is going byebye.

in that case just get yourself a set of coil spring specers to lat on top of your coils.

or get some 3/4 ton springs. I've got the 3/4's & like the way it rides. I also have Rancho RS9000 shocks set @ 2. Not to harsh but firmer then the 1/2 ton springs.

the spring rates between the 1500 and the 2500 are completely different. If you change coils you are in for a very rough ride.

The ride is better than the 1500's (with the RS9000's), went on a 2600 mile road trip in it and was very happy with the ride the whole time. BTW, I added a bed cover which also helped the ride out, before and after the spring change.
