debadging my dodge
I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. I've seen some trucks that are one color with the trim, pinstriping, and molding taken off and it makes them look pretty cool. Does anybody have any opinions on how a two tone would look? (burgandy/silver)
I think a clean look is cool....but the question is...how do you remove the badges without hurting the paint. I really hate my charcoal grey rub strips....want to remove them. I had a buddy tell me to use a heat gun. That didn't sound good to me. Any ideas anyone?
i've got a 97 sport 4x4 and i removed all the stickers and emblems. buy a heat gun at home depot -the cheap one will work fine. i bought the medium grade milwaukee model. it was like 40 bucks. i heated all the logos up and peeled them off. heat any remaining residue up and wipe it off with a rag and then some goo-gone or other adhesive remover. i bought the new chrome emblems off of ebay for the doors and the tailgate. people mistake my truck for being brand new all the time.
i tried to upload a pic of it but it is not working. i can email you a pic if you want. email me at fitpays@yahoo.com if you would like to see a pic or two.

i don't know how much goo-gone is but i know that denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol will also do the trick...you can also use newspaper instead of a rag if you want...it sometimes helps get it off easier
A heat gun isn't that intimidating of a tool. I use one often at work to take decals off trucks. I compare it to buffing, you don't want to leave the buffer in one place for to long as it will build up to much heat and burn the paint, same with the heat gun don't focus on one area for to long or it'll soften the paint and mess it up, wave it around like you'd be drying your hair or whatever.
