i have 92 3000gt and there is a ticking coming from the engine. i think there is a valve loose so does any one no the procedure on how to adjust them? thanks

 

i think most people just put thicker oil at this point. is it just on startups? mine aregoing off at start up and most people ignore them. i know in pushrod motors usually rockers can go loose when cam goes flat. i am not so sure how overhead cam motor works. i havn't been inside mine for two years now sence i got vaulve seals replaced

 

this ticking is all the time, i already used locus in it.

 

Are you sure it's not the "infamous" lifter tick?

Your car has the 1mm lifters. Only the 3rd Gen 3S got the 3mm lifters stock. It that's what's going on with yours, replacing your lifters will eliminate the ticking sound.

Yeah, you're right. It'll usually subside after enough oil gets through the holes in the lifters. Mine had pretty bad lifter tick but the 3rd gen lifters fixed that. It usually was worse in the summer too.

However, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think there is a "valve adjustment" procedure on the 3S.

Yeah, they should work. The main difference is the opening in the lifters. The 3rd gen have a 3mm opening while the others are a mere 1mm. Other than that, they are pretty much identical.

 

I have a 93 Stealth which sat for a long time, over a year. When starting it up I get the ticking noise from my engine. I let it idle a long time, the oil level is good, but I still get the ticking. Could the valves need adjusted, or did I do some major damage by letting it sit. The clutch sticks to the floor now and last time I took it in the techs said it couldn't be adjusted. (They have never adjusted it) Clutch still works fine once I get it to release. Curious, is this a spring loaded clutch? If I'm not racing it, do I really need a high performance clutch. My car has 74,000 miles on it. I know just enough about cars to know when something is wrong and where to go. My father used to rebuild sport cars and I loved to watch and learn, plus I did maintenance on semiconductor equipment for 20+ years. Not the typical girl. I hate being taken and would like to have some advice before I go to the shop.
