Default DOHC 24 Valve

I bought a 94 Dodge stealth (supposed to be all origional) and on the side windows it is marked as a DOHC 24 valve motor. I had the motor rebuilt and it is aSOHC. The odd thing is my mechanic insists that the motor has never been apart and the stamped number on the block matches the tag on the firewall? How can this be?

Take a picture of your engine.

Well if yours does look like that, then yes, it is a SOHC. The valve cover and intake plenum are dead give aways. When you get home and look at your engine and they look different than the pic, you have a DOHC. If it does indeed say DOHC on the rear quarter windows, a previous owner may have simply replaced them at one time.

Well that stinks. My car is near mint and this will take from the value, right? Will this also give me less HP?

As far as the value goes, maybe. If the windows were damaged and replaced it's possible. Another possibility is for some unknown reason, the DOHC stickers were put on the windows. Either way, yes that gives you less HP. The NA DOHC is rated at 222HP while the SOHC at 162HP.

Yes, that's correct. Only the base model Stealth is SOHC, a base 3000GT is DOHC. It was a Dodge thing, wanting to keep the price down for that model.
