Default ES to RT conversion?

I've looked everywhere for some solid information on the lovely stealth, but can't find much other than people asking about cosmetic conversions. I'm getting an ES, something of a "gift" to keep the car in the family. I love the stealth, but the ES is.. well... not the fastest thing around. I was wondering just how difficult/expensive an ES to RT engine and tranny swap would be. I've done an engine swap on my Honda CRX, but that was basically a pull out and bolt in job. The extra 60hp without aftermarket parts would be nice, and then probably do an I/H/E setup after the RT conversion. Anyhow, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

An ES should have the same motor as an RT (DOHC, 222hp)

Are you talking about a twin turbo RT?

If I'm reading everything correctly, the ES came with a 164hp SOHC V6, as opposed to the DOHC 222hp engine. The RT and the RT/TT both had the same engines, with various modifications, of course.

There are 4 models of Stealths

Base model, SOHC 164hp
ES DOHC 222hp
RT DOHC 222hp
RT/TT DOHC 300+hp

The base and the ES look the same. (front clip, sail panels, tail lights)
The RT and RT/TT look the same.

Oh! Well, never mind then. Seems I got a bit of misinformation. Thanks again

No problem. Do you own a Stealth, or planning a purchase of one??

I'm probably buying an ES from my cousin who's selling his for two grand. The only misgivings I have about it are the 170k miles on it, and every now and then I see ads for a good-looking RT-TT with at least 100k less miles on it for about six-seven grand. Granted, most of the vehicles aren't priced that low, but some are, and I'd definitely look them over. Granted, my cousin's car is only two grand, but with so many miles on it, the cost and headache of repairs if/when something breaks might just be worth another five thousand bucks for a less-used stealth.

I own two Stealth's, an RT with 156K and a TT with 175K on the odo's. I don't think it really matters how many miles they have, more importantly, how well they were cared for. You will have some problems, hey, it's a used car, and some maintenance items that will need replaced (t-belt, acc. belts, plugs, wires, filters, brakes, oil-pump), but everything else should/would be ok if it was taken care of.

There is a guy on another forum that just rolled over 400k on an ES (never been rebuilt, stock) and a guy who has over 200k on a TT (never been rebuilt). Like I said, it is more in the maintenance and upkeep than anything.

Good to know they don't fall apart for no reason. But still, in general I'd much prefer the awd tt to the es.

Owning both, I will say this, there is much more to break on the TT, awd, aws. It's alot harder to work on too, much more plumbing in the way. But, it is a hell of alot faster than an NA. (stock for stock)
