If you are failing by a slim margin, a set of high performance spark plugs could possably bump you over the edge into passing.

When I got my Stealth it ran rich. I found out that the spark plug wires were not fully plugged into the coil. All cylinders were getting burn, just not effectively. After cleaning out all the carbon deposits and fully plugging the wires in the car passed great. Checking/replacing spark plugs wires and cleaning the throttle body are some quick things to eliminate.
