Default WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS CAR??

OK...01 R/T...three weeks ago the car dies on the highway, sucked... before it died it ran kinda funny for two days. the rpm's jumped all over the place and it bucked along like crazy. i got the car home started tearing everything down. i tested the fuel pump, worked great. checked for spark, wasnt getting anything. i figured it was the crank position sensor. got to it which was no easy task because of one of the pully is in the way, and found that one of the wires had broke. i unplugged the sensor and the negative terminal on the battery just in case. i fixed the wire, taped everything up real nice and clean. plugged everything back in and the car fired right up, no problems. i let her warm up and then started backing out of my driveway for a test drive. right as i got to the end it died on me again. started it back up no problem but found that as soon as i took my foot off the gas it dies. i taked to a mechanic and he said that the computer has to reset the idle and it should take a few days......its been two weeks!!!!!! lol. could it be a throttle position sensor too? what is going on? im losing my mind over this!!!

ANY IDEAS??????????? THANKS

Umm... At work a couple of days ago... we had this van that kept on dying right after we started it... We thought it was a fuel pump(not a mechanic shop, just an oil change place)... well we looked around at the engine... and found the whole intake side loose... the air wasn't getting to the mass air flow sensor which was causing it to die since the sensor at least remotely controlled the amount of fuel pumped forward... We tightened down the intake... and everything was cool...

Basically my point is it could be your mass air flow sensor... just a thought however....

this is just a guess! if the car runs ok when cold, but not when hot, you have a wire issue [(because of no codes) the motor runs on a set program when cold]. the OBD II computer "should" tell you if it has a bad sensor (or wire for that matter). however, a bad wire, or connection, might not give the comput a "bad enough" reading or sig from a sensor to call it "bad". might need to gotoa dealer/stealership to run the eng on the "dealer" comp [(VERY $$$$$$$$ computer) this comp will not only check the eng but it's comp too. AND how the eng and it's comp talk to each other.] as i understand it, this type of computer bridges between the eng and the eng's computer. it runs the eng and transfers the sigs it get to the "eng computer". it looks at the output sigs from the "eng computer" to see if they are in the right range for the enginput sigs. most dealers find it better just to replace the eng computer.

idle reset sould not keep the car from running, might run like junk for 20-50 miles, it should run though.

i would try the TPS. when we first got our '05 Stratus the TPS was loose and the car didn't idle right at all. and felt like dying...now it just dies randomly so try and look at the TPS.

Probobly long solved but I recently had the same issue. After rebuilding my trans the guy who was putting it back in knicked a vacuum line. I was getting on the highway and my car starts sputtering. Over the next ten miles my rpms kept on dropping to the point where i had it floored and was barely getting 2000 rpms. I took it back in and within an hour i was back on the road.
