Default Replace Tranny in 97 Stratus

I have a 97 Stratus, 2.4 engine. The transmission is out of it and i have gotten one from a salvage yard to replace it. I was looking at the Chilton repair manual and it said that after the replacement was finished i had to hook up some kind of scan tool so the transmission could "learn"

I have swapped transmission on several other cars in past and have never run into this. is this necessary???

Thanks
Vic

no it's not necessary you can just drive the car and it will learn how to shift. the only reason for quick learn computer proceedure is for customer satisfaction so when you disconnect the battery you can flash the trans computer so the customer doesn't notice the trans computer was reset. just drive it'll relearn all buy itself

ya i learned about these trans in tech school and the books we used were from chyrs when the trans first came out before they programmed quick learn and it goes thru a whole proceedure on how to do it but it says it relearns on it's own anyway. really the whole thing is for it to adapt to the clutch clearances and driver style to control shift timing.

The car has it own computer, its called a TCM ( transmission control module ). The engine has its own too, PCM ( power control module ) or ECM ( engine control module ). You may have other computers on the car too. ABS,and SRS.

and BCM and SIR and what ever other gadget the engineers can throw into it.
i was looking in the trunk of an 09 BMW 7 series. over $10,000 of computers in the lr ¼ pannel and all for the entertainment stuff (DVD, GPS, phone, etc) this car even has 18+ adjustable seats that were heated, airconditioned and lower leg massage function..
