Default Hard Shifts, Lagging Shifts, 06 Sedan

Car: 06 sedan 2.7 auto 87k

Problem 1: So the other day i went to put my car in reverse and it took numerous shifts into and out of reverse before it finally went in. When it went in, it slammed hard enough to kill the engine.

Problem 2: Randomly slams into overdrive.

Tranny has been serviced with flush and filter about 5k ago.

These problems are totally random and otherwise everything works fine.

change fluid/filter again DON"T flush. disconnect battery for 10min+. try again. if it still is causing problems, I'll come to your house and diagnose it!

Planned on doing that on Friday.
What else could be causing it?

have a scanner? if not it could be a lot of guessing. might be bad internal problems, solenoid pack, wrong fluid, flushing plugged stuff, valve body problems, etc

i read on the sphere recently that strat trannys conform to how you drive.

when the battery is disconnected for a 15+ minutes the computer is reset and automatically calibrates all the data and ratios of driving habits during this time and adapts to best functionality under the given conditions. hang on ill find the link...

Default optimize shift quality learn procedure

also, i dont have a scanner. I go to O'reilys and use theirs and give it back! haha

okay, here it is....
================================================== ========
[Posted 22 April 2004 - 04:19 PM]
since i have been helping alot of people with their trannys lately, i thought i would teach everyone how to re-teach the transmission computer the shift points and quality of the shift. this is taken straight out of the ATSG manual for the chrysler A604. this is very helpful info. it might need to be in "how to" but i thought i would post it hear since you should do this anytime you disconnect the battery.(mabye it should be pinned in troubleshooting and repair)

here it is straight out of the manual,

SHIFT QUALITY QUICK-LEARN PROCEDURE[size=1]
This procedure will quickly optimize shift quality after the battery was disconnected

the transaxle operating temaperature must be warm before learning is allowed. to warmup transaxle fluid, observe the following chart:

Ambient temp(f)--------------------engine idle time(min)
0---------------------------------------8
20--------------------------------------6
40--------------------------------------4
60--------------------------------------2
80--------------------------------------0

UPSHIFT LEARN PROCEDURE
1: maintain constant throttle opening during shifts
CAUTION: do not move accelerator pedal during upshifts
2: accelerate vehicle with throttle opening angle in range of 10 to 15 degrees
3: make 15 to 20 1-2,2-3 and 3-4 upshifts. Accelerating from stop to approximately 45 mph each time at moderate throttle angle(20-25 degrees) is sufficient.

[size=7]KICKDOWN LEARN PROCEDURE
1: with the vehicle speed below 25 mph, make 5-8 wide-open-throttle kickdowns to 1st gearfrom either 2nd or 3rd gear. allow for 5 seconds or more of operation in 2nd or 3rd prior to the kickdown.
2: with the vehicle speed greater than 25 mph, make 5-8 part throttle to wide-open-throttle kickdowns to either 3rd or 2nd gear from 4th gear (for example, 4-3 or 4-2 kickdowns). allow for 5 seconds or more of operation in 4th, preferably at road load throttle, prior to performing the kickdown.

You think it just needs retuning?
A scanner will only tell something if the car has thrown a light for it.
I'll try the relearn. Hopefully it'll work.

I'm hoping it's not an issue from the headers and no cats. Would that cause issues?
