Transmission pops when downshifting
Hey everyone, I need help identifying a problem with my gf's 2002 Stratus. Her car is the DOHC 2.4L Auto, 4dr. About a week ago, she informed me that sometimes when it was cold, early in the morning she would shift it into reverse or drive and it wouldnt engage the gears until it warmed up. So after talking to a mechanic friend of mine he said the filter may be old and clogged so the fluid doesnt reach the gears until it warms up. Checked her fluid and added some to it but then it started a new problem. Now, when you are slowing down it does a semi loud pop, and you can fill this in the car, but it only does it when downshifting back into first gear. It doesnt do anything while accelerating, drives perfectly normal. And when you are decelerating and you shift the gears manually, it also does not do it then either, just when the automatic transmission downshifts by itself first gear pops. I dont want to continue driving it this way and mess it up beyond repair, hopefully someone here can help me out with this.
