1995 dodge stratus 2.4 16 v timing
Hi thanks for the pics and I did line up the marks on the cam sprockets
and the harmonic balancer .
put it all back together and now it will not stay running
I have to step on the gas to get it started and hold down the gas to keep it
running . I doubled checked the timing marks by turning 2x and it came back around all even . I believe the cam sprockets jumped when the belt went
I am fixing this for my fathering law after he lent it to some one who tried to make it home when it was over heating ,
my initial diagnoses was the water pump because you can see it laeking from there and the timing belt because shards of it were all about .
so i changed the water pump and belt but i really think the cam
sprockets advanced from one another , is this even possible
or either i moved one to far when removing them had to remove the back cover in order to remove the water pump .
so now that i had the marks lined up , how do I tell when removing the cam sprockets before the sprocket goes back on , on where what position do i install the cam sprockets , if i just line them up will the intake or exhaust valve be off ? or where is the intake exhaust valve suppose to be
and if so would i be able to tell with the valve cover off ?

REMOVAL - TIMING BELT
Disconnect negative battery cable.
Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove right front wheel.
Remove belt splash shield.
Remove accessory drive belts.
Remove crankshaft damper bolt, and remove damper.
Remove AC/Generator belt tensioner.
Disconnect generator connections. Remove generator and bracket.
Remove upper and lower timing belt covers.
Remove coolant recovery container.
Remove right engine mount.
Remove engine support bracket (Front Timing Belt Covers).
CAUTION: When aligning crankshaft and camshaft timing marks always rotate engine from crankshaft. Camshaft should not be rotated after timing belt is removed. Damage to valve components may occur. Always align timing marks before removing timing belt.
Before the removal of the timing belt, rotate crankshaft until the TDC mark on oil pump housing aligns with the TDC mark on crankshaft sprocket (trailing edge of sprocket tooth)(Crankshaft and Camshaft Timing).
NOTE: The crankshaft sprocket TDC mark is located on the trailing edge of the sprocket tooth. Failure to align trailing edge of sprocket tooth to TDC mark on oil pump housing will cause the camshaft timing marks to be misaligned.
Install 6 mm Allen wrench into belt tensioner. Before rotating the tensioner, insert the long end of a 1/8” or 3 mm Allen wrench into the pin hole on the front of the tensioner (Locking Timing Tensioner). While rotating the tensioner counterclockwise, push in lightly on the 1/8” or 3 mm Allen wrench, until it slides into the locking hole.
Remove timing belt.
CAUTION: If timing belt was damaged due to incorrect tracking (alignment), the belt tensioner assembly must be replaced.
