Default 2004 Stratus 4 cylinder (loss of power and lurching at 2300 rpm)

First thing i am a new member so I apologize now for any confusion I may cause.

I have the 2004 Stratus 4 cylinder. Car starts and drives normally 95% of the time. Occasionally I will get a check engine light that goes off within a few days. Today the vehicle was very shaky when trying to start and took awhile to turn over. Once started the vehicle was fine until i hit 2300 RPM. At this point the car would shake and would not accelerate anymore. If i let off the gas and let my RPM drop below 2300 it was fine. I can get up to higher speeds so long as i accelerate very slowly. I will take the car to the dealership at the end of the week. Any information would be most appreciated.

Thanks

My first guess would be a plugged exhaust system. But keep us posted on what the dealer finds.

Hello, my 2006 Stratus 2.4L is doing the same thing. i took it to Autozone to connect it to a tester. The code is P0171. They told me to replace the Idle Air Control Valve, but they do not have one on hand. I then cleaned out the intake sections and this valve. Still the same problem. Does anyone know what part would fix this problem? I cant find a good service garage, all are expensive in my area.
Thanks,

Default Resolution

I took my vehicle to my local dealership. The following is what was found and how it was resolved.

Initial Diagnostic turned up 5 trouble codes.
P0340 - Cam Sensor
P0325 - knock sensor
P0301 - #1 cylinder misfire,
P0303 - #3 cylinder misfire
P0410 - Secondary Injection.

Resolution

Technician replaced Cam Sensor and Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay. Cleared codes from system and retested. Everything came out fine. Tech noted that a light cylinder misfire upon a cold start though it set no trouble codes. Technician recommends new OEM plugs and wires.

Cost
Initial Diagnostic $115.00
Relay Non 8052328 - $20.25
Sensorpkg 8037156 - $75.40
Labor - $172.50
Tax - $8.61

Total - $391.76

Thanks for your input and I hope this information helps someone else also.

Thanks for that information. I did fix my car as well. It was indeed the catalytic converter. The Oxygen sensor quit on this car some time ago and caused heavy gas to build up in the exhaust. The engine was choking. I took it to the muffler shop and had a flex exhaust and new catalytic installed. It cost me $380. The O2 sensor was $24. But as soon as i drove off it worked fine and the engine light is now off. It saves alot on gas now. The muffler guy said this is an occuring problem in the OEM 2006 Dodge catalytic converter models. Not sure if that is a sales quote but if fixed the problem...! Take care...

I have 2006 Stratus that is giving a code for a camshaft position sensor, I have replaced that sensor along with the crankshaft sensor and the timing belt...... Problems were resolved for about a month then they returned, I next replaced the computer and the wiring harness..... this has not fixed the problem. Can anyone tell me what to do next im at a loss?

I have 2004 Dodge Stratus and I was running into the same problem, but I didn't take my car to the Dodge Dealership. So, I purchased a new "camshaft position sensor" from Napa Auto Parts to replace the old one. But, the engine light remain on and the codes reveal, that "camshaft position sensor" was defective. After, I research issues the Dodge Dealerships been having with the "camshaft position sensor." I found out magnet strength in the camshaft position sensor from Napa, Auto Zone, Car Quest, O'Reily's wasn't as strong as the "Dodge Manufactured Camshaft Position Sensor!" So, I got the Dodge Camshaft Position Sensor which was only $60 plus tax and took back the Napa Auto Parts Camshaft Sensor Position was $55 plus tax. The end result was all codes disappeared, no more engine lights and my car runs smoothly now. FYI when a DODGE DEALERSHIP HAS MAJOR PARTS ON STOCK, THAT EFFECTS THE MOBILITY OF YOUR CAR! IT MEANS IT IS COMMON ISSUES, THAT HAVE AND THEY WILL LOWER THE PRICE OF THAT PART!
