The two times it blew oil all over the motor it happened intermitantly - its not like you can see it leaking oil. I thought it was the pcv valve or the pcv hose that caused it the first time so put a new pcv valve in and cleaned the hose real good. Then the wife drove it for a week and it did it again so not knowing what it was I figured it would be a good idea to check the pcv channel in the valve cover then noticed the oil in the plug tubes. So when I did all that I also cleaned some sensors the egr tubes and the throttle body along with the upper manifold. When I was done I did add a bottle of CD-2 to the oil its a oil detergent it says it frees sticky lifters, valves and rings. I plan on adding one can the seafoam to a full tank of gas as well, When I finish changing the trans filter and fluid today if it stops dripping from where the gasket goes. I thought about the dye but the way it's happening I don't think it will help. I do change the oil every 3000miles to 3700miles. Anything else you guys think I need to do for now??

Thanks for the help guys

Well, just that does the CD-2 mention how long it can be run on the same oil before needing it to be changed?

You may have mentioned this already, but what kind of oil are you using lately? A HM oil may be of help, but I don't know. Perhaps replacing 1 QT of your oil at fill for a QT of MMO? It would help clean slowly over time instead of aggressively if something is in fact clogged.

Leaking oil pressure sensors could also aid in engine failure.[citation needed] It is also a poorly designed engine in the eyes of many mechanics, the water pump is located under the timing chain cover and in an oil bath, pump changing requires draining of the engine oil (which may now have water in it from pump failure) and removal of the timing chain cover, chain, and tensioner.[citation needed]

Yes, I have been using a high mileage. The CD-2 don't say to take it out I just thought it would be a good idea not to leave it in there to long, in fact it says to put it in at oil changes or every 2000miles and for extremely sticky valves, lifters and rings use two bottles. I put Valvoline Max Life Synthetic Blend every 3000 to 3700miles ever since 75,000miles I got 128,000miles on it now. Do you think I should change to another HM oil??

Almost fogot, the car doesn't overheat, nor does it throw a CEL or oil light. I do lose about a 1.5Qts between 3k mile intervals. I will have to see how much oil I lose between oil changes now that no oil is going into the spark plug tubes.

Well, when I bought my car from a family member(who had originally purchased it from the dealer, it was a dealer car), I switched it over to Valvoline MaxLife and it is one of the best HM oils you can use, IMO. HM oils tend to be on the thicker than 'norm' for spec when compared to straight grades of conventional oils, while synthetics tend to be on the thinner side of the grade spec'd on the bottles. This is, in part, why oil consumption typically goes down on an engine when switching to a HM oil.

My Stratus, a 2.4L 4-cylinder, loses from 1/2 Quart to 1 Qt every 3k miles. I am running it on Amsoil SSO 0w-30, since it's not my daily driver anymore and only sees 3k maybe in a year's time. This allows me to leave the oil in for the entire year(since it has such a high TBN) and I just monitor if I need to top it off. Back when I was using Valvoline ML I don't quite remember if oil consumption was lowered or not, but it was good for getting the engine ready for synthetic. I did use Mobil1 AFE for a while, before going to Amsoil. I figure it pays for itself over the course of a year, and since the car loses some oil being able to top off with fresh oil helps.

I have some leaks, but haven't tracked them down yet. Never heard of CD-2, but MMO or Kreen are good slow vs. aggressive engine cleaner additives. I prefer MMO to be safe, and Kreen is pricey. That is as far as cleaning. Warning, though, both of those will thin the oil(kreen shouldnt be driven with for more than 500-1000 miles max).

My real favorite oil additives, in general, are the LubroMoly mos2(cheap like MMO) as it helps with MPG in some cases, but overall a lot of users note other positives while in use. It takes quite a few hundred miles for the LM mos2 to take effect. It's not liquid moly, which a lot of oils have some of, but rather it's a fine solid that doesn't get filtered out of your oil easily(otherwise it'd be nonsense to use) and it attracts itself to the engine internals. I don't use it in the Stratus, since it's not driven enough and the particles rather just stay suspended with the oil. I would use this product in my daily driver, but prefer a product from LubeGard called Engine Protectant w/ BioTech. A lot of positive reports on it as an additive as well(MPG, drive feel, i.e. quieter engine etc), but adding such products really is a waste if you are losing them out with oil leak problems.

The best thing you can do is to be sure you are topped off as much of the time while in operation as possible. I sent you a PM, btw.
