02 Stratus R/T Sedan - start problems, etc.
I've been looking into this on the internet for a while and can't quite figure this one out. Here's the situation on my car - it won't start.
It cranks fine but won't fire. It will also stutter (misfire?) and die after it heats up - if it will start, which it now won't do.
Sorry for the book, but maybe someone will get something out of this:
Background: Last week, map light was left on over the weekend and I had to jump start the car on Monday morning (2/7) and then it ran fine (no CEL). Tuesday afternoon, CEL came on after running for about a half hour - limped home and died pulling into driveway. Didn't drive again until Thursday - car started fine with no jump but CEL still on. Drove very short distance only that day, later had to jump start that night but cranked fine. As an FYI, some of these days were below zero temperatures and the car lives outside. Friday, CEL off so I drove to work (oops), car ran fine until about 20 minutes into drive and started stuttering again - kept getting worse and coasted into parking spot. Drove home that night, ran fine for 10 minutes and then started again. Eventually died when I came to a stop but started with jump but ran like garbage. That night, got it home and ran fine. Started fine Monday morning (no jump) and drove very short distance, and then didn't want to start Monday night but did eventually with no jump. Hasn't started since then (jump start or otherwise) but still cranks fine.
Even further back, background: Late 2010, I replaced thermostat (damn 2.7) and did serpentine belt at same time. Belt has been squeling lately so maybe alternator was not charging battery properly. Hope to fix that this weekend. Also, I've had car since 2002 and don't remember replacing battery so it's definitely time to do the battery. Additionally, car has over 90K and still has original plugs and wires.
CEL's: 0352 (multiple times), 1391 (once only) and 1684. I know what these are, just wanted to share. I'm not sure 100% how to remedy these though.
I will be replacing battery and attempting to adjust serpentine belt - possibly replacing tensioner or whichever pulley is squealing - it's been doing this for a long time, I just haven't had time or good enough weather to check it and since you can't see the damn thing from under the hood, I have to plan all this out ahead of time.
It's odd to me that all of this would happen at once. Would a bad battery possibly cause "false" CEL's? I can start throwing parts at the car but was hoping this description might give someone more knowledgeable than me some insight into what's going on with the car. The car has been pretty reliable over the 8+ years we've had it but I just get more and more frustrated with the engineering of this 2.7 every time I have to do anything to it.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Your most likely cause is the cam sensor. Its a common problem with 2.7 engines, that why you are getting P1391 code. Loss of cam or crank signal. P0352 is a ignition coil number 2 cylinder. You have 6 ignition coil on the 2.7 motor. Also a new battery won't hurt either. I recommend that you replace the battery, cam sensor ( use only mopar) and spark plugs.

I took Friday off as we had decent weather. Pushed car into garage.
Replaced the battery, turned the key for fun and it was cranking great but didn't start. Replaced cam position sensor (after dealing with stupid clamps on the hoses to get them out of the way). Turned key and it started right up! Thanks for the advice Master Tech!
I then tightened the serpentine belt and the noise went away.
Thanks!
Steve
