Default Chrysler Cirrus

I recently just invested into a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus with appox. 110k, this was an old woman's(my great-aunt's) car who recently left this world.
1. What should I as an owner be aware of?
2. What modifications can be done to acheive better mpg?

post whatever just be nice

Sorry to hear about you great aunt. If the car has a 2.5L, You should already be getting 25 to 28 mpg highway. As far as mods, thats up to you.

Default Come on guys, I know somebody has to have ideas, or am I talking ghosts?

Thanks, my aunt was at the age where she doesn't need to drive anymore. But I was looking to see if the Cirrus car can/will accept Stratus parts, if any. Would anybody know about CAI, exhaust, TB spacers, chips, ect...?

The car needs a paint job, but for now will have to make due. The car has Goodyear Assurance Tires. Never been crazy about Goodyears, but will work until they go bald. The interior is excellent, trunk and rear seat never hardly used. Does have woodgrain accent trim peices. I will be in the process of remove/transport/reposition to my house tomorrow. Hpoe everything goes smoothly.

Does these cars have a cabin filter?

*My cousin (daughter of aunt) said that while in over drive, if you go up an incline the car does want to stall. If you get into the throttle hard enough it will downshift. So this tells me it maybe sticking in OD. I will do a filter and fluid change. Maybe add a can of BG tranny additive. The car has never been sent to a dealer or mechanic. I want to pull the plugs and check them plus check the wires. Oil and oil filter change. Pick up a Haynes Car Manual.

The 1g "cloud" cars (stratus, cirrus, breeze) are nearly identical in style, and engineering. If it LOOKS different, that's all the difference is...
There isn't much you can do to improve on it, aftermarket parts are hard to come by. The car probably just needs a nice tuneup (plugs/wires/air filter). The trans fluid is rather easy to change. If it's the 2.5lv6, do NOT add anything to the trans, ATF+4 ONLY. Not sure if the 2.0 or 2.4 i4's use the same 41te trans or not.

I'm hoping where you say it's never been to mechanic or dealer, that it's at least seen a jiffylube or two in it's day with that many miles.

Talking

its a 2.5, have seen the oil change places before.

Transmission Help! Shift into drive will stay in first gear only. Still has reverse, I'm think its having a speed sensor/s go out completely. Has been sitting for about a year. Hopefully it didn't lock up. Fluid is ATF+4, still appears red as a rose. I did let the car warm up, drove about 1/4 mile down and back. Got up to 40-45 mph. No shifting? Also, the tachometer will not work.

It's actually locked in second gear. It's a failsafe mode usually referred to as "limp mode" or "limp home mode". It locks the trans in place in a gear that can drive the car, without risking damage from any other failed internal or electrical components.

The fact that you're not getting a tach reading, tells me that the trans is probably OK, but isn't getting a reading from the engine about what speed it's putting into the trans, so the trans is freaking out and thinking that something is wrong, and going limp. I would look at the input speed sensor on the trans.

Also just noticed your other post about not getting a reading from the PCM... If that's failed for whatever reason, that could explain a lot of the other issues you're having there.

Question How do you check a PCM

Well thanks, the input sensor is fine. it has 0.6k ohms. The tachometer doesn't work at all. I took the shift pack off, it was replaced by a dealer in 2008. (had a casting mark of '07) I should have not removed it, but I had to check it. Being dirty like the rest of the transmission, I thought I needed to check it out. The PCM is probably out, ever had to replace one? The dealer only or could I go to NAPA or Advance Auto?

How do you check a PCM? Test procedures?

I have found out that the Trans/shift pack soleniod is the wrong part number and is for a different year of transmissions after '01. Took it to a dealership, they said that somebody must have done the mistake of ordering the wrong part. The old gasket covered up part of the holes on the transmission. Now I get to buy a $185 part and maybe the transmission will shift right.
