Default Starts with positive wire grounded?

I have been having sporadic starting issues with my Stratus.
I cleaned all the connections and checked wires as told in the past.

I went to check the solenoid's positive wire for juice with the key in the 'start' position. I connected the positive of the voltmeter and then the negative. As I touched the frame with the negative probe the car started.

A few days later the car wouldnt start again. I again grounded out the positive wire to the solenoid and the car started.

Whatta ya think all that means?

Thanks.

You should not have the ignition on when fooling with battery or cables. It is best to have the key out of the ignition. Car electronics are prone to gremlins when they are connected to the battery and you remove or connect a battery cable. Original problem.
Wont crank? Or cranks and wont start?

You could have a bad starter voltage wire from the battery to the starter.

Doesn't crank, although I can hear the relay in the fuse box cycle.
