Default 2004 Stratus - MIL always on

Just this afternoon the MIL came on and stayed on. I tried to cycle the key in the ignition. Nothing. No code came up. Just to be on the safe side, I checked the gas cap. No change (except got rid of a stink bug under the door).

One other recent issue - the brake light will intermittently come on, mostly when I slow down to take a right hand turn. However, it just started when I turned left. Ideas as to what causes this?

Welcome to DF
Sometimes cycling the key on some models won't work. I need to pull codes and this will help you and others to repair the circuit you are having problems with.

This is a 2004 Dodge Status SE 4D Sedan. Bought it used a few years ago for our son. He's off at college now so I'm putting some miles on it instead of my 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE. I knew there were good people with the Sienna forums, so I started looking for similar for the Stratus.

When you say you need to pull codes, what do you mean? Since I can't get the codes to come up, won't I need a tech to do that for me?

HAH! Just tried again. First time cycling and a code popped up:

p0456-evap system small leak

Off to research. Any help here would be appreciated.

BTW this is a V6 2.7L engine.
