Question What is the part called?

I have an '02 dodge stratus es with a 2.7L engine. The transmission has started to leak and I believe I narrowed it down to the source but have no clue what this part is called. I started assuming that it is the TCM, I looked in the crappy hanes manual to verify but hanes is saying the the TCM is up top next to the PCM.The part in question is located on the top forward part of the trans and has a large electrical plug going to it and is held down by three bolts. To help narrow the search some more, it is just below the cooling hoses. Any help is appreciated.

the part you describe certainly sounds like the TCM to me. I've noticed that the haynes manual will show a picture from the wrong setup. The stratus being more confusing since the coupe and sedan of a given year, are basically different cars short of the name. If you're working on a sedan, I would not be surprised that the picture is actually from a coupe.

The gasket was a weak spot on the 1g stratus, although the gasket is no longer sold separately. And plenty of reports of the TCM itself leaking internally.

Thanks for the information. I tried to put a little RTV on the outter rim of the gasket. I will cross my fingers and hope for the best.

From what you describe would be the transmission solenoid pack. Not the TCM. The TCM doesn't have any fluid in the module.
