Default Transmission and Engine compatibility?

Hello, im not sure if there is a thread on this somewhere as i couldnt find it but anyways. i have a 03' Stratus SE that i recently bought and after putting around 3k miles on it the transmission was no more. so after some deep research i realized that the engine in this SE has a 3.0l while it should be having a 2.4l or 2.7l so this leads me to believe it has an R/T engine.. anyways ive been looking around for a 3.0l transmission to match this but havent been able to find anything but 2.4l and 2.7l, so i guess what im asking is, can a either of these transmission be compatible with the 3.0l engine? thank you!

2003 SE with a 3.0? 2001/2002 coupes had the SE trim with 2.4 or 3.0 V6. In 2003 the Coupe came with the SXT and R/T trim. SXT had a 2.4 SOHC 4 cyl, and the R/T was a 3.0 V6.

Sedan has a 2.4 DOHC 4cyl, and 2.7 V6.

So... coupe or sedan?

The Automatic transmission that came with the 01-05 Coupe with 3.0 V6 is the F4A51. It can also be found in the 2000-2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Theres a Wave Srping inside that breaks and renders the transmission useless. Ive read that you can put the newer updated version in as preventative maintenance and youre good to go, but if you dont fix it and your transmission goes, it cant be repaired.

thank you so much for clearing this up for me and where to look. just wondering though, what would the "updated version" be?

Yeah the wave spring was redesigned. instead of thin metal coiled like a spring, its a solid ring thats made of thicker metal.
