My 2000 Stratus contiunes to run after the key is taken out. Dodge has had the car for over a week and can't tell me what's up. They say that the Starter is fine and all relays and fuses good. Ignition is also alright. What to do anyone?

 

What do you have to do to turn the car off?

 

My 2000 alero did the same thing it turn off however but once it was on all the way u could pull it out.
Never had no major problems did it for couple years never found out y.

 

I turn the key normal, it just keep running for a while everything is still on in the car until the engine dies.

 

So I should have nothing to worry about as far as replacing the battery before it's time? Did it stop doing it on it's own?

 

no i could just pull the key out from the on position i guess i read your deal wrong <> After u turn the key to the off position it is still on if this is so I have no clue .

 

the only way to solve the problem is checking ur computer, maybe something wrong with the little plug in it.

however, the dealer cant find out the problem that's not a good sign.
wut a dodge! i have heard many ppl complain about the dodge's customer services is not that nice.

 

About the computer, if it was to get replaced would that just reset the codes? Or is that the engine needs the computer before start up? Could it also be that when they replaced my timming belt that maybe some of the teeth was damaged and it'd throwing the car off?

 

sounds like the key switch is faulty. the switch cuts power to the ignition, fuel pump, and computer. somehow the electric power to your motor is not cut when you turn the key to off. may be bad contacts in the switch or some relay (contacts stuck together). norm this prevents things from working, don't see why it can't happen the other way round. the dealer sounds like they just checked for "open" circuts, i think they need to check for ones that are "closed" when they need to be "open". let us know the deal, good luck.

 

i got a 2000 stratus that runs with key out ...its getting power from somewhere keeping it running... i disconnected ignition switch still running..i need help please!!!!
