No it was a "merger" between the two companies. Mercedes heritage unfortunaetly has the decision influence on these things despite the fact that they are inefficent and wasteful in comparison to the Chrysler heritage divisions. One of the things you could do with the huge amount of money that you would save on the Viper is put in a better engine, such as the 528 HEMI which produces 610 hp and 650 ft-lbs naturally aspired! It would make sense though that Chrysler would make a HEMI V10 for a few different reasons. First, the new HEMI costs less than the LA based V8s and therefore would cost less in a V10 form as well. Second, the new HEMI with the dual spark pulg per cylinder technology helps it with the emissions standards better than the old engines did. Third, the multi-displacement system technology would be nice for improving the fuel economy numbers (even though it will probably never be in that mode due to the way people will drive that kind of car). It would be cool to say the least.

 

yeah, but the coupe adds like several more lbs. than the convertible, and the viper did quite well at the 1/4
and soon the coupe got whupped by the new Z06, and that's with whip cream

 

More weight towards the wheels so less spinning, but you probably are right with the weight. I don't know that off the top of my head.

I think people are missing the point.
Ford built a all around car. Not something to do the 1/4 mile in. That cost money. I have read every test with the GT, Viper,Ferrari 430,lambo's and ZO6. They all pretty much agree the GT is a better car, in ways half a second in the 1/4 mile can't show. The difference that can only be seen when the cars are at their limits. The thing that impress me about the GT is when in beat the ferrari 430 in a heads up contest. Protecting Americas pride,taking the pilot to the limit and back, making the same level of performance all day long, fighting the Enzo in a motortrend shootout..........Yeah it's worth 140k and then some.

You've got to be on some serious crack man. If you want the best track bang, the GT starts at 150 grand (good luck finding it at that price) and the Viper Competition Coupe starts at 120 grand. A real race car versus a sport car....no comparison, the CC was built to destroy.

-Viper CC=best track bang for buck
-Viper SRT-10 w/ twin turbo (fastest production car on earth)= best street legal bang for >150k
skip 1/4 mile, it not only will dominate straight aways, but the turns and braking it has already dominated.

I think some people are crazy thats for sure , but the only thing I'm smoking is the truth. You are right these numbers (from the factory) do look like domination, but for the GT. The viper CC is a good car, but it can't beat a GT, or ZO6. So I would not get on a soap box so soon.

Oh and by the way a ZO6 would spank it for 65k...... bang for the buck.............ZO6,GT you pick; If you want to win. If you don't mind losing you are right the CC is the better bang for the buck.

The limited production Dodge Viper Competition Coupe is a genuine racing vehicle available only from Dodge and only to professional and semi-professional drivers with racing credentials.

 

Um.......yeah.

Again, we're not talking about a drag queen, but on a race track. I'd bet a few million on the CC anyday versus a GT. Heck, you could even use the 20 grand saved to upgrade the CC and kill the S7 as well!

With the CC, CR5 and GT, that's what we should put into another racing catagory. As you may see, Vette and Viper are under 100K, the GT is sumtin the catagories must match up later

 

Drag strip aside.
If you put slicks on the GT or ZO6 they will take a CC on a track as well. Oh and drag times are not too important, but from a standing start you have to do something to get ahead of the other cars. If you look at tracks like road America I think the CC would be a little better off and have the greatest chance of winning. That track have mid. spend turns where the added down force would come in handy. If the those 3 cars were racing Lemans or Nurburging, then the CC would have problems. With a long back stretch and not being able to hit 200, or close to it. The CC would find an increaseing gap at every lap. I just think it's kinda crazy that a sports/ supercar can take a race car. It should not even come close. Look at the astin martin DB-9, or C6R. Those cars are flat out fast at all levels.

 

I'd go with the Viper on the track.
