Are you keeping up with all the fluid changes, airfilter replacement, sea foaming the truck and making sure everything is up to par spark plugs and etc?

I am going to be taking the big step and doing the plenum and tune up (cap, plugs, and wires). My truck is only getting 8.9-9.5 mpg in town, and using about a half quart of oil every 1000 miles. I hope this will fix my mpg and oil consumption problem. I just hope everything goes okay.
Is there anything else I should do while I have everything torn apart?

or at least thats what im gunna do when i win some money lol.

but seriously , while you have everything apart, its a good time to flush coolant, add a 180* thermostat, replace the little rubber coolant hose from intake to block. be careful not to let any dirt or grime get into the motor. also, removal of valve covers was not necessary when i did my plenum.

My wife would kill me if I bought all of those upgrades lol, I told her it would cost around 200 to do all this.
I am however going to replace the 180 T-stat while im at it. Do I have to mod the one i get from hughes?
Do you know what that rubber hose is called? I will have to pick it up at our auto parts store here.

why would you have to mod the thermostat?

pretty straight foward. remove valve covers, take old rocker arms out, install new ones and re-torque.
here is a diy from 2nd gen ram diy

the Plenum is actuallypretty easy. i started doing mine today. have the intake off, and im cleaning it all out tomorrow. then putting the hughes plenum plate in to take care of the plenum problem once and for all.

But its pretty easy, only special took you need is a fuel line disconecctor
