fellow 5.9'er's.....my 5.9 with 198,349 miles has developed a head gasket leak.

such a shame...its loosing 1/2 quart of oil every 3K (between each oil change) its not a big leak, but i had pinpointed the exact location of the leak, and it is the head gasket...but she still has ***** to the wall.

so what this means is a new set of 2.02 complete Iron Heads, Head Gaskets, 1.7 HC RR, and new push rods shall be installed within the next few months....might as well do a double roller timing chain as well.

cant wait lol

I'm not positive if I have an oil leak yet. my oil pressure was low between the last oil change and this one so I naturally added a half quart to prevent damage. I've had my oil changed and when I cold start the motor the oil pressure is good and right in the middle. but when it warms up, the pressure just floats above the low mark but never goes to low. if the motor is warm however and it's at a high rpm range the pressure goes back up to middle, middle high. Where should the oil pressure be sitting at normally? Should it be fluctuating this much?

this is how mine goes, (even with the head gasket leak)

at start up shes at 60 psi.
Warmed up and running 55-60 psi.
idle 40-45 psi when warm.

before i did the mass amount of work including plenum, i got this

start up- 50 psi
warmed up and runnin 45-50 psi
idle 35psi

mine has 198K ive gone 3100 mines since last oil change, and my oil is still clean and clear. (time for a change though)

i use full sythetic with lucus BTW...and i jsut did a bunch of motor work, and now have to do more.

My symptoms sound remarkably similar to what yours were.

"before i did the mass amount of work including plenum, i got this

start up- 50 psi
warmed up and runnin 45-50 psi
idle 35psi"

Sounds like I'm going to be replacing the plenum, I had figured that much. How difficult was the job? What did it take? Any suggestions?

Just a heads up most people find the 2.02's overkill for our motors unless you are boosted or running NOS, they find the motors actually run far better with a good set of 1.92 valved heads. If you going down to the heads why not add a cam to match the heads rather than going to 1.7 RR? Just throwing out a few suggestions.
