Did the frame get bent by the highway bars? That fourth pic looks like it.

Sucks.

I don't know if the frame itself is bent but the flat iron that the engine guard bolts to is definitely bent. I just went to the dealer to look at it again and both front and rear fenders are off to one side. But neither fender has any damage. I'm thinking something is twisted somewhere.

I also called my Ins. co to see if they would cover a rental, that was a no-go. Worth a try anyway. Everyone thinks I'm crazy because I want to ride today. I told them if I had my Honda down here I would have put the Harley in the shed and taken off on the Honda yesterday. It's gonna take allot more than some road rash to keep me from riding.

No, they don't. I almost had that happen to me a few years back. I was about 3/4 of the way through a long turn and saw the sand patch coming up, but nothing I could do. The front tire jumped sideways about 6" but luckily I didn't go down.

I hate it for you Mega, it sucks. The road rash will heal (although it looks like it hurts like hell) but the condition of the bike would be the worst to me too.

Sorry to hear/see it happened man.

Mega who is your Motorcycle insurance through? I have progressive I know they automatically give you $3000 in extra equipment coverage,so add up all your extra's plus a few of those "unseen" internal engine and suspension mods you have like, progressive rate suspension, engine internal's etc.. until you get to $3-4000 and you should come out a little better on the deal. Then hop on Craigslist and find you a new bike,if your frame is bent,I would insist they total out the bike.

Adjuster did a quick walk around of the bike on Friday, For parts and a very low-ball on labor the first estimate is just over $4,200. He expects that to at least double by the time the dealer starts to tear in to it. If the frame is bent, the dealer told me today it's like $2,000 in parts and almost$8,000 labor not including the rest of the damage. I went to look at an '08 Street Glide today. I'm hoping they are going to total it. It only books for $15,649 average retail.

Too bad you won't get that without a lawyer. Mega I feel your pain. We had a fellow rider go down last fall with wet leaves. They were in a pile when he hit them. swoosh right out from under him. He lost a piece of his ear. He never listened to reason anyways. lol sorry cheap joke, I'm sure it doesn't hurt too laugh however. I would laugh at the insurance if less than 8,ooo. $ btw. Keep the faith and wait for the right deal, it'll come special;ly near fall. Bide your time rent a bike if you half too. Just don.t jump at the first bike you see. I got my deal in the fall. Dealers bent backwards to unload it. just a heads up. heal well my friend.

If they totalit I'd say go for a bagger,Street Glide or an Ultra. I went from a Lowrider to an Ultra Classic,I will never go back!!!! The Harley Touring bikes are just so nice, once you ride one and get used to how it feels you will be spoiled. I have an 08 Ultra, the 08 touring bikes are a bit of a bastard child in a way,They have some of the new tech stuff that the 09-2010 bikes have like throttle by wire, but they are on the older style frame like 96-07. For this reason sometimes you can swing a really good deal on the 08's because alot of guys want the new 09-10 frame.

Jess: My buddy has an '09 Street Glide I've ridden a couple of times. I didn't really care for the stiffness of the seat or height of the bars too much, but those are the easiest thing to change. I did like the way the bike rode and the accessories like the hard bags and front fairing w/ stereo. I was actually looking into adding the full fairing to my Heritage, just hadn't been able to convince myself into dropping the $2,000 for product + paint. Although, yesterday someone showed me where there are full front fairings for softails for $699! That I might be able to talk myself into.

Rocket: You have proven to all of us over and over again that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. I have the paper work from my ins saying that is what they are going to give me if it is totaled. No lawyer needed. "Laugh at the insurance if less that $8,000", really?? I don't jump on the first anything I see, I've been looking at bikes since Thursday afternoon, probably a dozen so far. I'm a big boy and can choose for myself. Please don't respond to any of my posts, all you are doing is taking up space in a rather informative thread.

The SG seats are probably the stiffest,a stock one frome an EG Standard or an Ultra would be alot more comphy and could be had pretty cheap on ebay, also the HD Sundowner is a nice seat and you can get it with Steet Glide stiching for about $300. Personally I went for the Ultra because it already has the best of everything and you can get a Tour pack detach kit and make it look like a Street Glide but you get alll the other bells and whistles that come on an Ultra.
