Thanks guys. Here is what I found today. The truck has the 03 harness and PCM and separate TCM as well, but the 05 motor and sensors etc. Everything matches up, truck drives fine now, I worked out a few bugs by servicing the T-body, changing the MAP sensor, and clearing the codes, as well as a 30 min. battery disconnect. The truck shifts properly now and everything has turned off on the dash (warning lights). The only odd thing I see is that there is an EGR valve with a sensor inset into the top of it, and there is no connector for it ANYWHERE, but I had the 05 harness on the ground loose and I matched connector to connector vs the 03. The 05 harness does have a EGR plug, but the 03 does not. The 05 also has less plugs on the PCM/TCM side because of the separate computers vs the 05 using only 1.. Now, I "HEARD" the 03 did not have a EGR sensor? is this true? if so, then I might be home free just leaving the EGR valve there without the EGR sensor being plugged in because there is no electrical plug for it??

Guys, this doesn't bode well for our much beloved 03's. I called a Diablo tuner to see about getting a tune and he tells me, he cannot adjust the rev limiter of speed resitricter. I told him I found that hard to believe as ther were plenty of modified 03 running around. He said he would check around to see what can be done. I called Diablo and was put on hold for very long time.... finally just posted on their forum and MikeL replied with quote "03s have been listed as not having these options since day one. They use a separate controller for the ETC that we do not talk to, which controls the ETC itself and the rev limiter". I replied with, asking if that included custom tuners. Haven't got an answer to that but it is looking that the Diablo is not the answer to our tuning problems. How can we compete against other rides that can out rev our trucks and have no speed restrictions. Hell, a SC3865 with it's canned tunes can adjust rev limiter and speed restricter on a 03, but apparently not a DSP. And on top of that I have my ABS warning back on after I use the DSP "Quick Tune" feature. What a crock of ****..... Rant far from over.....

Update: Exchanged information on the Diablo (MikeL) support forum. The Diablo cannot adjust the rev limmiter or speed restricter using canned or custom tunes on a Ram 1500 2003.

marksman, the 03 does not have an EGR, so you're fine leaving it as is.

RT, i dont think anyone ever said DSP was able to change that stuff. I certainly didnt. you may be better off going SCT/SC stack

Well update fellows. After looking and doing some testing, turns out that my running issues such as no power, tranny not shifting into OD etc. I did clear the codes, but still ran terrible..So I dug in, checked and double checked everything I could, I ran a datalog and looked to me like truck was in "limp mode", the MAP readings looked odd, so I called Dodge and got a new one on order. I installed it (by the way, this new one requires some cutting of these small tabs on the intake manifold to make it fit, but low and behold it fixed the problem!! all this caused by a lousy MAP sensor. I bought the "new improved" MAP from Dodge, installed it, cleared the codes and...BAM the truck runs properly!!

I also found the changity chang noises I was looking for as well, turns out this truck had air bag helpers on the back leaf springs, well I guess the previous owner must have overloaded the truck before and cracked the leaf that the bags were on, so the bags were just dangling there, removed the bags, and no noise!! Yeah!!

Greg. Commented on your DSP Luck on the DataLog Thread. Sell the DSP unless you wanna go radical till you fall on your face at 5800 or shift manually using SC, with a SCSB and 4.10 you'll beat all the QC's for sure. Your Cam choice will ultimately guide you in your decision. (P.S. Apologize but I thought you got the part about RPM and speed limiter during lengthly discussions with AF and myself wrt DSP vs SC. I think the fact AF was successful with his ability to retrieve data required to pass on to a tuner and the success of an aggressive cam tuned idialed into an 03 may have threw you off, but either way it can be good). Dan

Marksman 1500, I covered the EGR item earlier but that said we are at #225, anyhow depending on mileage, I would say check plugs, wires, PCV and make sure the single Cat is flowing good out the back side?

RamMan,
I knew the DSP wasn't user adjustable, but I thought the custom tuner could adjust these points. I'm talking with a couple of tuners and it looks like, indeed there is no adjustments. But the final word is still out. But it is starting to look like we are stuck with using a SC3865 tuner and a friendly cam. I have run Red at 6300 rpm and believe me it makes a big difference that I don't think can be easily made up for by being jammed at 5800. I'm heading for a 1/8th mile strip tomorrow to get some times. But don't expect anything special. Here is a question I'll throw out. There is no idle adjustment for the 03, but when the AC is running the idle picks up about 200 rpm. What signal is causing that raise at idle? Can that signal be hijacked and used to our advantage?

I totally Agree and I'll get back to you Red (gotta make the Wife some supper as she worked all Day and I was Off) as I do have a comment wrt the Idle issue and AC, etc. Wait Out!

Red, Idle adjustment, I know of a fellow from around these parts (he doesn't frequent this or the other site but the other, others) posted that when he ran both the 6.1 and 260 (latter) in his 03 that the Idle would suffer at around 450, especially using the 260 and the only way to bump it back up to 650 was to turn on and run with the A/C, but in winter forget that. He ultimately removed the 260 and for a while was one of the guys constantly requesting that kind of update support on the Diablosport help site. Finally he actually sold the Truck and got a 4th Gen. I never have idle issues with my 6.1 and am waiting for the diablosport "03 Coming" to come true or if they admit "Never coming" like the Supercharger Companies, then maybe out of Honesty I might try it to see what the custom tuning side does, however shifting past 6000 really does make a difference in your speed. That fellow like you started with the SC but eventually wanted custom Tuning with Idle adjustment capability along with the Rev, Speed adjustments and finally gave up even after buying expensive heads. As for why or how the A/C does it Dunno? My guess would be the xtra Drag? causes the TCM to up the idle or like you suspect it triggers another switch (would be my 2nd choice of guess) but you know guessing is like throwing horseshoes and Hand Gren's!

Dan,
Thanks, Got a SC3865 on order this morning. Due back to the dealer tomorrow for my ABS reset. Hope SC arrives Tuesday, so should have everything back on track shortly. Now, I excited about getting back to the strip and running datalogs to see how I'm running. From what I am hearing is cams with the 114LC are SC friendly. Basically not enough overlap to cause reversion pulses in the intake. I was planing to do heads and cam together but now I think it might do better to go a step at a time. So first the cam and then if I have proper tune I'll decide whether I can run a set of BV heads. I studied up a little and the PCM controls the idle. Inputs come from AC clutch, and hi/lo pressure switches. I think I can figure this out and if all else fails I'll build a box I can plug into the harness to simulate the AC outputs. I go overseas next month so I'll have time to do research. Can't just drink and chase around on my motorcycle all the time, LOL Great fun... Congratulations on your retirement. I have been a DoD contractor since I retired from the Navy and still do the odd job for them even though I'm suppose to be fully retired now. You are going to like it.

Greg, Ok, Excellent, Happy for you, so that answers my question on the other Hang-Out! I like the SC. We will see how the new Crazy Spartan reacts to the canned Tune. I do want to try out custom Tuning some day too and perhaps some day I'll need a rebuild and may go the heads route like yourself, Hell its only Money and from what I'm told after retirement I won't know what to do with my Money...LMAO.. So Thanks, for the congrats, I got my last Haircut on Thurs and my replacement arrives next week. I will start my retirement leave and put on my Civilian Coveralls on the same day (1st Sept). No Vacation Days till Xmas but thats OK too! Some Day I plan to get a passport for me and the Wife and we will drive down south and Tour the USA in the Ram?

So other than some Dataloggin, Ol Red won't get Cam till spring? Thats OK, when you get back I should have my Gears in.
