that sounds like bull to me, a "specially built" muffler??? heres what i have and i do not have any power loss, i have headers that go into 2 cats that are hi flow magnaflow cats 2 1/8", from there i have a dynamax dual in dual out with 2 1/2" pipes, "extreme" exits, one behind each rear tire, the dynamax is somewhat quiet until you romp it then its loud, i was hauling a 31' travel trailer and i had to pass a car when i romped it i saw the lady driving the car and she about **** herself.

Hay guys Im a big fan of the 488 as well Ive had mine since new in 97. since then i have been modifying it i started out with redoing my exhaust with new header and a full Gibson setup Magnaflow cats. but for a v10 it sounds more like a diesel than a gas motor until it hits around 3 grand then it sounds more like a badly tuned sports car. then a 5.5in lift from FabTech and 35in tires i was so amazed with the power the motor had to turn the wheels i had to go bigger and stopped at 15in of lift and 44in tires and still had no problems lighting them up. about 2 years and 3 times changing my front linkage i decided to go back to just the 5.5in lift with 35in tires i decided to turn it into my work truck instead of my play toy. i put a flat bed on it and now that's all she is. But i was just looking around online and found u guys and thought it was cool to find some other guys that think the 488 is a grate motor. but let me tell ya since gas has gone up my truck has bin sitting more and more.
Ill try to put some pics up later of when it was lifted and what it looks like now

Hope I'm not late to the party ,but I am another V10 owner.I have a 96' 2500 4x4 I have been using as a back up truck.Swapped on a set 33/12.50 16.5 I had on my old power wagon and yanked the cats put a flow master on it and kept the stock tailpipe.rebuilt the frontend a couple years ago.I only gave $1300 for it.Fun truck ,but it can't pass a fuel stop.
Had the injectors rebuilt which helped with a huge running rich issue, but it is still rich now.I think I toasted my O2 sensors.Need to replace them again.
Need to find some new wheels and tires, and want to put a flatbed on it.
I do love the truck, but it doesn't compare to my old Cummins.I like to use it for all the beater work.
