I have a 1987 dodge ramvan 250, I have bought new battery, alternator tested great, and voltage reg checked. Still not holding a charge. While driving it's fine, as soon as I turn it off it will not restart! Also checked fusablelinks. Any sugestions?? Thanks

Do you have a draw on the battery when it's not running? Is the problem that it won't start, or that there's no power to start it?

There is no juice to start. Just a clicking sound, not even turning over.

I have to hook the battery charger up to it just to get it to start, then when I shut it off, it wont restart without the charger.

No it would not. My mistake. There has to be some draw when it's off if it's pulling the battery down overnight. It would have to be a major draw too. Not something small like a light or whatever.

Well thats what I thought too at first, but it's when I get it started, and let it run for awhile even drive it, then pull back into driveway turn it off, and try to restart, then it wont start again. I have to put it back on charger.

So I took the volt reg completely off, and I have good power going to the alternator and the battery. It starts everytime without draining the battery. I changed the volt reg, and the same thing keeps happening. The battery wont hold a charge. Could there be a short in the wiring that goes from the volt reg to the battery? If so how do you find out??

I had that exact thing happen on a tow truck I used to own. The wire from the voltage regulator to the battery would go bad once in a while. I just replaced it with a heavy wire and it was good. You may have an issue between the alternator and voltage regulator too. That's what it sounds like from my experience with this.
