If they want your vechicle they are gonna get it. No alarm stops a flatbed and some wire cutters.

This is true, Lojac is the best option, coupled with an alarm.

Now sensors, what types does everyone suggest? The systems come with a shock sensor but you can add proximity sensors and glass breaking sensors. Now what I heard this weekend (cause i'm in the market too, hopefully having a Viper installed wednesday, 661 or 671XV) is that the proximity sensors range vary with outdoor temperature. So the sensitivity increases and decreases with temp. Now what i heard with the glass break sensor is that the sensor has a microphone that is cued to the sound of glass breaking......how accurate is this do we think? Has anyone heard of any other types of sensors and are they worth it?

I find that the glass break sensor's are becoming obsolete. They do have a mic and sometimes that can trigger false alarm's in colder weather. Proxy sensor's are the way to go if you are adding additional sensor's. Temp can slightly affect these but generally work well. If you do add one make sure the installer put's it as dead centre to the vehicle as poss. Usually they have dual zone setting's one for the outside perimeter and one for the inside adjustable seperatley. The shock sensor will normally set the alarm of with the force it takes too break a window anyway's (unless they are using a porcelan tip tool. if installing the proxy I hope the alarm has nuisense bypass circutry or you can have a lot of false alarm's. The more your alarm goes off the less people will care Kinda the cry wolf senerio. Hope this help's. as far as flatbed is concerned install a mercury switch with back up siren (see note above) Lojac is great for recovering a vehicle , but let's not let them have it to begin with.

If you're going to have it done professionally, I'd say definitely go with Clifford. I used to do installs and they are by far the highest quality and most innovative alarm around.

Never heard of Clifford, who carries it? I was getting my Viper though Best Buy and they only carry Viper and Audiovox. The only other company I had heard of was Crimestoppers.

Not sure what chains you guys would have in Ohio, but around here (Wisconsin) Ziebart chains carry them as well as a number of private shops. However, if you go to Clifford's website they have a dealer locator (http://www.clifford.com/locator/default.asp). You can also check out their lineup of alarms on their site. If you do go with one of the options available at Best Buy, Viper is going to be your best bet. Audiovox alarms are very cheaply made and generally don't have the features of the better alarms. I don't know much about crimestoppers.

One of the things I like best about the Cliffords that I haven't seen on any other alarm is the passive starter cutout. With most alarms, the alarm has to be powered in order for the starter cutout to work (if you know about relays this will make sense to you). However, the Cliffords have the option of wiring the relay so that the starter cutout is passive meaning it is always cutout unless the alarm is powered and charging the relay coil to close the circuit. Clifford also provides a guarantee to cover some costs if your car does get stolen with the alarm in it. This is why you can only get it installed at a dealer.
